In my opinion Smile is the best album from the collective bunch, and maybe(large stress on this maybe) Pet sounds is in second place, but the next seven spots are Beatle works. Wilson, unfortunately, had no Paul or George to his Lennon, just a bunch of Ringos who only sought to bring him down.
harsh, bro

That'd be a good one. I'd have to listen to the latter more to judge fairly, buuuuut then i should have done that for the Beatles all along.

And I think Noise Wall has a point, though I wouldn't say that the Beach Boys before Pet Sounds was just atrocious, but certainly less masterful. I'm not too familiar with post Smile Beach Boys (or pre-Pet Sounds to be honest), but Smiley Smile was pretty flame, and I've heard good things for Sunflower. Brian Wilson's time as the supreme commander of Beach Boy creative decision was certainly and unfortunately short lived though.

I have to disagree with this. IMO Today! is far better than any of the Beatles pre-Rubber Soul releases.

Sunflower is good but give Love You a listen if you get a chance. It's the last Brian-helmed album and really, really good. The style is pretty different but it's one of my favorite Beach Boys albums.

I'll be sure to give all of them a listen. I've just been listening to the mystical ones everyone yammers about and been all caught up in them recently.

This is hard, because I absolutely love both. I think that the Beatles were more musically skilled, but I enjoy listening to the Beach Boys a little bit more, so I'll got for them.

i actually prefer Summer Days (And Summer Nights) - they had that pocket symphony sound while not being as overly complex as Pet Sounds

That's a good one too. Really most of the Beach Boys early albums are pretty good. The Beatles' early albums, on the other hand, I find fairly hard to sit through.

the first two Beach Boys albums, whilst being inoffensive, are hard to sit through for me, merely because they're quite generic rock n roll

at any rate, i do miss David Marks' guitar playing, though, he was quite good at 17 (when those albums were recorded)

I agree with you about Surfin' Safari but Surfin' USA is decent. And Surfer Girl, Little Deuce Coupe, Shut Down Volume 2, and All Summer Long are all pretty good.
