Madonna hands down, Gaga is like that younger sibling that tries way too hard to be like you, it just appears desperate.

Screw Madonna. No one should care about that irrelevant sack of bones.

I heard the new Paris Hilton song today and I swear she sounds like a young Madonna!

In case no one has noticed, Madonna and Gaga have been going at each other with sharpened claws for a couple of years now. Both of them are minimally talented, attention seeking whores who don't like to share the spotlight anyone else.

Both rely on shock tactics to compensate for their lack of musical talent. They're not singers, rather they're entertainers who rely on slick videos and visually stunning mega-concerts instead of musical talent.

A truly talented vocalist like Janis Joplin would never make it in the current post-MTV era, because Janis would laugh at the thought of having 15 slave-boy dancers and 10 costume changes when she performed a live concert. There's something to be said for authenticity but in this day and age nobody gives a damn if the performer is lip syncing to a tape loop, as long as they're wearing a cool outfit that makes them look like a Vegas showgirl.

I've been waiting 30 years for Madonna to retire. At age 55 how much more money and attention does she need to make her feel good about herself? Her egotism is all consuming and she's rapidly becoming an unintentional parody of former self, like Liza Minnelli.

I was with you in your rant up until this part. You can dislike them both all you want but Gaga is an excellent singer and pianist. She's far more than just an entertainer like Britney and Madonna.

I believe Madonna plays guitar as well but I don't know how talented she is at that.

Punk Rock has shriveled my ability to appreciate most if not all pop music but if I HAD to choose definitely Madonna. While not a fan of her music, she's always seemed like a more genuine person. Lady GaGa just comes across as another run-of-the-mill, brain dead, pretentious, self-absorbed pop star who would be lucky to be as well remembered as Madonna in 20 years.

This isn't a "back in my day" discussion. Let me clue you in... I first went online in 1988 when CompuServe was the only internet service provider. I've been downloading MP3 files since Napster went online in 1998 and I purchased the 12" single of The Breaks by Kurtis Blow in 1980. Do you even know who Kurtis Blow is?

There's plenty of modern pop musicians that I love, however you have to be tone-deaf if you're declaring that Madonna and Lady Gaga are brilliant musicians.

There are plenty of great contemporary musicians out there like Grimes, Golfrapp, Bjork and Emiliana Torrini who are playing great pop music that doesn't sound like it's straight from the Simon Cowell Academy of Music.

No I don't know who kurtis blow is but is he cool? Like if he's good I'm in for listening

Hey maybe I'm tone deaf, who knows but I really hate when people do the "oh well the Beatles[or insert old artist here] wouldn't stoop to popularity this way" argument because it just seems like it ignores any sort of evolution of music. Personally I like lady gaga and Madonna. Am I wrong somehow in this? I'm not going to bars to jam to bjork gimme a break. I like bjork and goldfrapp and grimes and whatever but you can't go clubbing to those songs. Like I can understand why you wouldn't like those artists but why abuse people that like different music? It's as if you take offense to people that like lady gaga. Why tho? Listen and love.

But what do I know I'm tone deaf or something
