Hey maybe I'm tone deaf, who knows but I really hate when people do the "oh well the Beatles[or insert old artist here] wouldn't stoop to popularity this way" argument because it just seems like it ignores any sort of evolution of music. Personally I like lady gaga and Madonna. Am I wrong somehow in this? I'm not going to bars to jam to bjork gimme a break. I like bjork and goldfrapp and grimes and whatever but you can't go clubbing to those songs. Like I can understand why you wouldn't like those artists but why abuse people that like different music? It's as if you take offense to people that like lady gaga. Why tho? Listen and love.

But what do I know I'm tone deaf or something
You must go to gay clubs because they're the only joints that play Madonna and Lady Gaga.

I don't like to get into brawls about musical taste but you made it personal by insinuating I was an old foggy simply because I didn't like Lady Gaga and Madonna.

Well you can still party hard to a "quality" dance/pop song lol (dont get that twisted lol). Just because it is a dance/pop song doesnt mean it has to be cheesy or medicore. I think that is my main problem with alot of the dance/pop songs out now. Ive heard some really creative dance pop songs but I guess since the bar has lowered so much people dont care anymore lol

People bashing Madonna in this thread but I have yet to hear Lady Gaga make a creative, artistic, daring and personal album as Madonna's "Ray of Light" and album that I think is better than anything Lady Gaga has ever came out with.

Sure Lady Gaga is talented but her "talent" is a dime a dozen (There are much better singers and much better musicians) and while Madonna lacks raw talent at least she was creative, artistc and took musical risks. She wrote a handful of her songs and has a handful of classics under her belt. She also came out during the MTV age and made a significant impact on videos. Talent "alone" doesnt necessarily make you better. It is how you use your talent and if your wasting it on crap then it means nothing.

Do you realize that Ray of light was Madonna's 7th album? Lady Gaga is only on her third so far give her a break.

Well if people are arguing that she is better than Madonna then I think its fair to look at the out put Gaga has put out thus far and thus far nothing comes close to Ray of Light. Hell even Erotica was a very good experimental pop album as well. I just think all these arguements insisting she is better than Madonna is laughable.

Maybe she might have more raw talent but she certainly isnt a better songwriter and she doesnt make better music which is more important than just possessing "talent" alone. In other words, Gaga might be a better singer but she is not a better "overall artist" than Madonna.

But that's not a problem for some. Like me. I dont consider all popular dance songs to be mediocre and Lady Gaga is included in that. I wouldnt call any of her albums masterpieces but each have songs on them that I genuinely enjoy. And so I consider them to be quality songs.

I guess I just get a little pissy when people have that "you cant possibly think this is good music" attitude. And a lot of those attacks are directed to chart pop. As if someone shouldnt be allowed to like both Popol Vuh and Rihanna for some reason.

Well my favorite artist is the king of pop so I dont have have a problem with "popular music" LOL

I made that comment because someone implied that since Gaga makes dance/pop music that her music doesnt have to be "creative"... which I disagree with.

I never implied that people shouldnt like cheesy music. I was just insisting that just because something is pop or dance music doesnt mean we automatically have to accept it as the lowest denominator.

They're are plenty of artists that have made artistic dance/pop songs. Just because its a popular genre doesnt mean artists cant be creative with it. I think excusing the lack of creativity from dance pop artists with suggesting that the genre is a simple genre is an excuse.

If some people like all the songs that play on the radio thats fine... but I personally dont. It doesnt make me pretentious or narrowminded. Its just my opinion which we all are entitled to have. I personally think current pop artists can be a hell of alot more creative than what they are.

Oh ya I agree completely. I guess I consider Lady Gaga to be creative so it's not that Im making excuses for her. Listening to her vs Bjork are completely different to me tho.
