Even though Gaga is great i have to go with Madonna cause she is like the original Gaga way before Gaga did 'Alejandro' Madonna had already made 'La isla bonita' wherever Gaga goes Madonna has already been there

Now i don't mean to diminish Gaga's talent because in fact i think she is a better singer than Madonna but when it comes to reinventing herself while still putting out pop hits Madonna basically set the guidelines for Gaga's career

Listening to 'Artpop' now. Deece.

This album is hard.
Yeah, I enjoyed Artpop but it is considered Artflop in many circles because of all the marketing money she got upfront to promote the album and sales didn't match up.

I don't get this train of thought because that would be like saying that any artist that comes out today that ends up slightly mimic'ing someone in the past should be discredited for their hard work because there is someone in the past that did the same thing way before they were born like wtf.

No not really i can't really compare Adele's career with Madonna's career can i? but with Gaga i can because they are very similar

But even if their careers have a similar pattern i don't consider Gaga a copycat of Madonna cause i do think Gaga tries to do her own thing

that's my general point. So even if you don't consider her a copycat. Most people that hate lady Gaga and cream themselves all over Madonna tend to.

I didn't know this. It's an entertaining listen. A bit 'brostep' in places but considering she is a 'pop' star, this is not what I'd consider bubblegum pop or nothing like that.

That one is more what I'd expect from a pop star. Tracks 2-6 I think are strong, needs another listen cos I was half arsing it before. Paparazzi is my favourite track so far.

I don't think she's copying Madonna either tbh.

Also didn't realise she had so much input going from the credits listed on Wiki.

Madonna, easily. Not everything she's done has been original, but she definitely blazed the trail that many others, including Gaga, have been travelling on.

Yeah, I have to go with Madonna too. She had a wider range of songs, and didn't go quite to the theatrical shock value extreme Gaga does. I think Gaga's songs are decent, but it's just a little too much style over substance with her for me.

Madonna - her music is always changing but still good. Lady Gaga had one good album but tries far too hard and is losing her appeal.

I get tired of the same boring argument that Gaga is copying Madonna, you could say Brittany Spears is copying Madonna or that Christina Agulera is copying Madonna too. Its such a tired cliche as to be a cure for insomnia.

Madonna was no trail blazer when she started out rather she was a white female doing disco songs ( Hello Debbie Harry ! ). She was also an attractive white women doing club based pop music that the likes of Donna Summers or Chaka Kan had been doing for years, of course Donna Summers and Chaka Kan were better singers than Madonna but because Madonna had fair skin and the music video age was dawning, she was prime time MTV fodder.

In short she was photogenic and her voice was only a secondary concern, because when you are singing about being" like a virgin" or "living in a material world" and you're dressed up like Marrillon Monroe, you're voice is going to be the last thing people will be thinking about.

She did everything to exploit her image, from bearing her breasts wearing a black corset, Siouxe from Siouxe and the Banshees had done the same thing back in the late seventies, to going into the movie industry. But at the end of the day she was just a singer with an ok voice.

That is the one distinct difference between Lady Gaga and Madonna, Lady Gaga can actually sing really well, Madonna's voice is just ok. Other things I like about Lady Gaga are that her videos are avant guard master pieces, her costumes outrageous and her behaviour is truly eccentric at times.

The music Madonna is making these days is actually questionable at best and its safe to say her best years are behind her. She could age gracefully and create music that reflects her age, but instead she teams up with artists like Justin Timberlake, MIA, Adele and even Miley Cyrus. It is just sad and a reflection on how separate she has become to remain relevant, that she is courting artists half her age to try and retain, or should I say regain her street creed.

I can't imagine Lady Gaga doing the same when she is in her fifties also she did not get to where she is without talent and compared with some of her contemporaries like Justine Bebo and Mile High Cyrus, Lady Gaga actually has fans who are older than 13.
