The Ultimate Feel Good Songs

Hi there,
I host a not for profit radio show and have started a discussion with listeners to select their all time Feel Good songs. Strikes me we need such music at this time. Love to know what classic pop songs you'd select in this category. You can nominate your Top 10 if you like. Here's mine:
That's When The Music Takes Me - Neil Sedaka
You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet - Bachman Turner
You Are The Sunshine Of My Life - Stevie Wonder
We Are The Champions - Queen
Let's Stay Together - Al Green
It's Now Or Never - Elvis Presley
No Regrets - Walker Brothers
Magic - Pilot
Every Little Thing - Police
With A Little Luck - Wings

...what songs make you happy?

goldendoodle 12-21-2020 01:05 PM

These usually will give me one (1) molecule of serotonin (though I also always listen to them when in a chaotic/slightly manic mindframe because I apparently don't ever want to feel TOO good, yknow) :

Spoiler for .:

^ this is my go-to "I haven't slept in 2.5 days and am about to do something very impulsive and stupid right after i finish checking out my cart full of things I don't need on ebay" song.

An obvious choice.

Robyn is also ALWAYS an obvious choice. This one, Dancing On My Own, Honey and Missing U are my favorites.

This whole album (along with circus) because duh. I like to listen to Blackout after I've had a daquiri on a thursday night or something while taking artsy nudes.

I love Charli's newer stuff so much (as well as her very first album). It's PERFECT when you're in a very specific, discombobulated state of being.

I'm sure I've forgotten better/more important ones but oh well.

Here are ten more...

I had this sneaking suspicion you were holding back on your "feel good" songs so I had to "ftfy" for you. I'm sure these songs definitely turn that "Frown" upside-down.

Here are a few more I thought of...

Welcome to MB, Simon S :wavey: You've started with a great idea - you should stick around.

Totally times two for Psy-Fi's picks of Dancing in the Street, Be My Baby and Good Vibrations.
Here are a couple from me:

Daydream by The Loving Spoonful
Then He Kissed Me by The Crystals
Take The Money And Run by The Steve Miller Band
Good Day Sunshine by The Beatles
Spirit In The Sky by Norman Greenbaum
On The Road Again by Canned Heat

Plus two lesser known songs:-

My list is longer than I expected, because like goldendoodle, I don't want to be TOO happy. That's why my list has so few Brits on it; we don't do Happy; we do dreary hardship in a bad climate for convoluted reasons that stem from economic downturn, post-war guilt, medieval religious masochism and Spartan Victorian values.

Tiny Tim - Livin' in the Sunlight, Lovin' in the Moon Light

More (because for some reason I was only thinking of more mainstream/current pop stuff before)

Spoiler for ...:

I want this played at my funeral.

Awesome. This looks like a fancier (and better sounding), antique version of the traditional Dutch barrel organ. They don't play contemporary pop music that often (unfortunately), but this brings back fond childhood memories

Astrud Gilberto, João Gilberto and Stan Getz - The Girl from Ipanema

This one might be the ultimate "feel good" song...

Little Richard - Tutti Frutti

Tutti Frutti :pimp:

People have posted some The Association songs but I think this would be their best feel-good song.

This one might be the ultimate "feel good" song...

Louis Jordan & His Tympany Five - Beans And Cornbread

DriveYourCarDownToTheSea 12-28-2020 04:54 PM

Some of these songs are good but I'm scratching my head as to why they'd be considered "feel good" songs? *shrugs*

I suppose it's subjective.

Anyway here's a couple more classic ones.

EDIT: Just realized the OP got the Stevie Wonder song I had here

DriveYourCarDownToTheSea 12-28-2020 05:12 PM

Can't forget this one, either.

Mindfulness 12-28-2020 05:22 PM

Beans and Cornbread is a feel good song cause they hated each so much they were ready to "beat the hell out" of each other on the corner tomorrow night, but then they saw how other foods got along and by the end of the song they reconciled. That's part that always makes me feel good.

DriveYourCarDownToTheSea 12-28-2020 05:42 PM

Good god how could we have forgotten this one?

LOVE Sophie. I'd love to learn to make Sophie-esque music (well, Sophie slash Claire Hamill's Voices slash Cristina)

Is It Cold In the Water? literally makes me feel like I'm ascending.

That's a fun song, Neapolitan! I especially liked the list of food combinations and the change of tempo at the end.

Here's another song in the "How can we have missed it " category:-

Just about anything Samba or Bossa Nova-influenced could be interpreted as a feel good song, lol.

plr521 01-02-2021 02:07 PM

The Rainmakers may not be remembered much outside of the Midwestern U.S. and Norway (!). The lead singer Bob Walkenhorst wrote this song about alienation, “View from the Tower,” that has a happy ending. Delete the two spaces in the url.
