Yeah, but I think it's safe to say that if you like De-Loused, you'll probably like Bedlam as well.

Comus 06-07-2009 09:24 PM

I'd again dissagree, most people hate bedlam for some reason.

De-Loused is probably the most accessible, though. Or I'm just biased - that's my favourite album.

The new one is a grower, I think. I've given it about five listens now, good stuff.

Octahedron is wonderful - a very enjoyable listen. It does get a little slow at times, but I suppose I just need to be in the right mood for it, which is the same with all Mars Volta albums.

I'm looking forward to getting a better rip in order to really dig in. For some reason, the album seems to have been taken off of demonoid. I wonder why that is.

Man I'm listening to De-Loused in the Comatorium now and wow do I miss this style. It was crazy, spastic, technical but loaded with melody. As much as I'm liked each album since (except the new one I haven't heard), this was the bomb.

Comus 06-09-2009 05:09 PM

I don't understand the love for De-Loused, it doesn't have the same energy, mood or beauty of the rest of their stuff.

and your favorite album is?

Errr, it changes, right now probably Amp or Bedlam. It was Frances for ages, but it's never been De-Loused.

For me it was the first I heard (which doesn't always but often leads to it being my favorite) and as you mentioned in an earlier post, they still had a lot of ATD-I in them. While ATD-I isn't my favorite band, I like a lot of post-hardcore and similar bands so that pleases me. Then again I like a lot of prog so it's not like dislike the albums that followed it...just that I like both genres and they mixed them very well.

I've only been able to listen to Octahedron once so far. Really can't pass judgment on it yet, Teflon was the standout track on the first listen but I need to hear it again. Unfortunately that might have to wait, as I realized yesterday I had never actually heard Amputechture, so I quickly ran out and bought it. Holy hell. I had always heard really mixed reviews about it, but it's up there with Bedlam for me (which until now was my favorite album).
