I keep trying to get into them, but yeah, it's kind of so pretentious and boring most of the time (even for a prog band) that it's hard. I like the odd track, but even then I couldn't tell you which ones. I think the only album I sat through in its entireity was Fear Of a Blank Planet, and again, I can't remember anything of it.

Like Opeth, they just feel kind of sterile and dull. Some of it is ok in doses, but like anything Steven Wilson does, I get bored with it.

Have you heard Schoolyard Ghosts by No-Man? I feel it would appeal to the asthetic I'm coming to recognise you enjoy.

Love PT and SW solo. Not so much the very early poppish stuff but once he found his niche it's all been good.

If you dig that check out Tim Bowness's other work. It's all pretty stellar.

Much to my surprise, I quite liked this! The deep bass, the rich strings, the very dynamic mix, the interesting and varied arrangements... pretty damn good.

Now the interesting question is how you can seemingly understand what my tastes are when I have wondered the same before and come up blank? Get out of my head!

Seriously though, great recommendation

Glad you enjoyed it. As I said, if you liked that you'll more than likely love Tim's other work.
