To comment on the choices made in this thread during 2013:-
woozoom, Cheese and galt54 ; agree 100% with your tracks (fat old sun, one of these days, turning away) Ki ; don´t know Dogs well enough to comment. Bongo Fury ; you chose 2 tracks ( Paintbox, Summer 68)that I always avoid playing if at all possible! Taxman and mikpop93; hard to argue with See Emily and Comfortably Numb., but let´s not forget:- Obscured By Clouds with it´s great, sinister beginning. Atom Heart Mother which has been around so long that I put it on, forget about it, but then the different sections remind me that it has some of Floyd´s most interesting instrumental interludes. With Meddle, on the other hand, I put it on and forget about it, period.(Sorry, Frownland, Paul and J.) |

Well that's kinda what I meant when I said the weak side of Meddle is better than the weak side of Tarkus. IMO the one-song side carries the album and quite frankly, were the album released with the other side blank (talking vinyl here) The album would be just as good. The difference it that the other side of Tarkus is utter crap. The weak side of Meddle is just ok IMO |
Agreed, Paul. I don't listen to elp but I get the analogy. My fave Floyd song is still echoes, at this point I don't even consider it a subjective topic, tbh.

The acoustic work on Music From The Soundtrack of the film 'More'.

Dogs, Sheep, Echoes, Time, Free Four are the ones that spring to my mind :)

Same one for me. |
Ok, Echoes is great, I admit. It makes you feel like you're undertaking an epic journey across the undiscovered sea...
but Dogs has a lot of raw emotional power in it and I was in that dark, mysterious, creepy phase as a teen first listening to all of Floyd, so it really made a positive impression on me the first time I heard Dogs, then that second and third solo of Gilmour's really sealed the deal. |
I love "Brain Damage", Comfortably Numb", "Mother", "Echoes", but my favorite is "Wish You Were Here".

1. Shine On You Crazy Diamond

Tough to choose just one, especially since I am a huge Floyd nerd. I'll narrow it down to five, though:
1. Dogs off Animals - Lyrical/musical perfection. 2. One Of These Days off Meddle -Just a tight, yet sprawling prog rock jam out. Gilmour was in top form for this one. 3. Us and Them off Dark Side of the Moon - The best song on one of the most influential albums in music history. It's the pinnacle of DSOTM's surrealism and atmosphere. 4. Echoes off Meddle - Epic masterpiece. Arguably Pink Floyd's best song, although I feel the lyrics don't compare to Dogs. Which is why it's at 4 instead of 1. Was the gateway that led to DSOTM, though, so some may find that more of a reason to put it at number 1. 5. Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun off Saucerful of Secrets - Don't know if many would consider this one of Pink Floyd's better songs (and I could see why they wouldn't) but, personally, I love the loose, spacey feel to it, and there's a lot of interesting instrumentation in it. I also think Roger Waters sounds great in this one. HMs: Speak To Me/Breathe, Mother, Interstellar Overdrive |
Not a huge Pink Floyd fan but I'd have to say 'Hey You', 'Mother', and 'Welcome To The Machine' are probably my three "favorites".
