The Best Song Of Pink Floyd In Your Opinion?

Hi ,

I Wanna Know
What is the Best Song of Pink Floyd In Your Mind ?

Thanks

Guybrush 09-10-2009 04:19 AM

I don't know, it changes for me but I do think that High Hopes from their last studio album (Division Bell) may be underrated. It's a lovely melancholic song with a fantastic solo at the end by Gilmour and it feels a bit like a goodbye ..

I get the feeling so many people disregard the post-Barrett-Waters Pink Floyd and those should really check that one out.

Hi toretorden

I am not native of America
I wanna Improve my English With Pink Floyd

what do u Suggest ?

Guybrush 09-10-2009 05:12 AM

Not sure which one to go for from an educational point of view, but my favourite from them is The Dark Side of the Moon which is also their most commercially succesful album and one of the best selling albums in the world.

edit :

Assumed you wanted a suggestion for an album ;)

Echoes (Meddle)

Saucerful of Secrets (Pompeii version)

Careful With That Axe Eugene (Ummagumma)

Great Gig in the Sky (Dark Side of the Moon)

Comfortably Numb (The Wall)

zeppy111 09-10-2009 09:50 AM

Echoes and Comfortably Numb.

Guybrush 09-10-2009 10:07 AM

Dogs from Animals is also a wonderful song.

Grunge_Junkie 09-10-2009 12:07 PM

I would say "Brain Damage" is the greatest Pink Floyd song. But there is a lot others.

Double X 09-10-2009 01:20 PM

Dogs, and definitely Interstellar Overdrive.

storymilo 09-10-2009 03:49 PM

My favorite by them is Interstellar Overdrive: YouTube - Pink Floyd: Interstellar Overdrive

You should also check out Wish You Were Here, Echoes, and Dogs

Guybrush 09-10-2009 04:02 PM

Also don't forget their nr. 1 tribute to Barrett, the many parted "Shine on you Crazy Diamond" .. here recorded from Pulse which I thought was a great album/tour. :)

Delicious song, that one.

jackhammer 09-10-2009 04:19 PM

Apart from the usual suspects (dogs is my favourite by far), I feel this track available on Relics deserves more love. Fantastic track and one of Rick Wright's best.

I totally agree. That song is one of the main reasons I consider Wright to be the most underrated member of the band. Although it should also be said that one of the best things about the song is Mason's drumming.

I agree, he only provided a few tracks but gems one and all. This is fantastic too. I love his piano playing, so simple and elegant.

Aw hell yeah, another fantastic song! And once again excellent intertwining of the keys and drums. There aren't all that many Pink Floyd songs where I particularly pay attention to the drums but when Mason was on he was really on. And Wright of course was fantastic, probably the best musician in the band despite all the attention Gilmour got.

And speaking of kind of underrated Floyd songs, here's one of my personal favorites:

I adore the whole album. Obscured by clouds is a phenomenal album. It's got me in a Floyd mood and Echoes is getting a blast right now.

scottsy 09-10-2009 09:46 PM

Echoes! By a country mile for me... I love that track!

kintakmagic 09-21-2009 09:16 PM

i really like echoes and shine on you crazy diamond.
but there are way too many to be the best.

snagglepuss 09-23-2009 09:14 AM

Summer 68 is the best Rick Wright song by far IMO. As for the Floyd as a whole their best accomplishment I would have to say is Echoes, especially the early live versions.

sweet_nothing 09-23-2009 05:10 PM

See Emily Play for me, it's psychedelia mixed in with pop. What's not to love? Probably Barret's best penned song, for me anyway. As for underrated songs Julia Dream is a hushed acoustic that I can never get enough of. I really wish they made more like it.

scottsy 09-26-2009 11:13 PM

Echoes! Stunning and sublime... brilliant, often minimalist, but nonetheless still stirring... 22 of the best moments committed to tape....

therion 09-27-2009 01:09 AM

Time

scottsy 09-27-2009 09:32 AM

Agreed there! Time is, pardon the pun, a timeless classic! But nothing sustains my interest in the band like Echoes...

clutnuckle 09-27-2009 05:33 PM

Dogs, Fearless, The Gunner's Dream, Echoes, and Time are some of their best in my humble opinion.

The Abominable Homan 09-27-2009 05:43 PM

I'd probably have to go with "The Great Gig in the Sky."

Wicked tunes, really wicked.

Echoes or Shine On are my favorites.

Shivs 09-27-2009 08:24 PM

Damn, hard to choose, but so far the only two Pink Floyd songs I've heard at full blast on my sound system were On the Run, and Interstellar Overdrive. Which reminds me, I need to make more CDs...

Indeed, also great pick with Shine On -- Can't believe I left that one out.

eponymous 09-27-2009 11:38 PM

When I am forced to choose, I would have to say Wish You Were Here is my favourite Pink Floyd song, the lyrics put it in the number one spot. Other contenders would be Brick In The Wall 1, Us And Them, High Hopes, Shine On You Crazy Diamond,....hell I think I would go on to name almost every other Pink Floyd song!

dog 09-28-2009 03:24 AM

'if' from atom heart mother is pretty awesome

Yeah, probably the earliest example of Roger Waters' isolation. Plus the acoustic guitar work is simplistic but perfect for the tone.

Symbiosis 09-30-2009 03:45 AM

I'm going to go with "Wish You Were Here" or "Set Controls For the Heart of the Sun"

Blue 09-30-2009 08:00 AM

Since everyone has already said Echoes and Shine On already, I'll throw out some of my other favorites.....

Us & Them
Time
Green is the Colour
Wearing the Inside Out
Marooned
Careful with that Axe, Eugene
Cluster One
Embryo
Pigs
Welcome to the Machine
Jugband Blues
Goodbye Blue Sky
Don't Leave Me Know
Hey You
Fearless
The Gunners Dream
The Great Gig in the Sky
Breathe

Raust 09-30-2009 03:17 PM

I really love comfortably numb, but i also love shine on you crazy diamond. they have so many great songs. I'll have to go with comfortably numb. the song is chilling i'd love for it to be played at my funeral.

scottsy 10-01-2009 09:34 PM

I guess it would make a fitting funeral theme... hehehehehe... If there is another Pink Floyd Song i gotta claim to love it's Welcome to the Machine... I just love that eerie synth sound and the distortion of the vocals and the fact that the whole song kinda plods along to a mechanical rhythm.... really puts its message across fantastically.

Agreed. WTTM still sounds fantastic to this day. The production is superb and it's lyrically great too.

clutnuckle 10-04-2009 09:44 AM

Word. At this point in time, I'm only really feeling in touch with WYWH and The Final Cut. Two phenomenal albums. SYCD is killing me, and I can't help but feel emotionally moved after songs like 'The Gunner's Dream' or 'Fletcher Memorial Home'.

DIDIPP 10-04-2009 01:32 PM

I don't know all their songs, but I love Comfortably Numb, I listen to it everyday.

xevious 10-04-2009 01:45 PM

Hard to pick just one song... there is so much range to Pink Floyd's work. There's musical prowess, lyrical poetry, uniqueness, inspirational, comforting, jamming, introspective, etc. I'd say it's best to pick like a top 10...

This is a great thread--woke me up to a few songs I'd not heard from PF before. Thanks! :yeah:

FadedMyxomatosis 12-05-2009 01:00 PM

Mother or Wish You Were Here. Beautiful songs.

I also love all of Dark Side of the Moon.
