so ok

Supertramp - well, the instrumentation is good and everything falls into place, but is it long and drawn-out or what? only "Bloody Well Right" perks my ears, as it sounds like it comes from Pink Floyd's Animals. The rest of the album was extremely tedious and i kept wondering when it'd end

Moody Blues - this is more a "Baroque Pop" album than a proper "Prog" album. As it stands, it's pleasant and rather catchy and reminds me of the Zombies' Odessey and Oracle. I quite like this one.

so:-

Supertramp - 2
Moody Blues - 2

Wow! I'm amazed you think "Crime of the century" is boring! You don't find anything stunning in tracks like "Asylum", "School" or even the title track? Not even the quietly brilliant "If everyone was listening"? This is one of their classic albums, and if you didn't like it Howard then I think you may not be a Supertramp fan. Paradoxically, the weakest track for me on that album IS "Bloody well right" (great piano intro though); I much prefer Hodgson's voice.

Oh well, your opinion is yours, but I totally disagree. I find the Moodys in general flat and boring, and any of their albums I've listened to usually fail to impress me.

To really appreciate the Supertramp debut, its an album that needs to be played several times to really get the songs, its not an album that's going to grab somebody on first listen. Agree with "Bloody Well Right" as well possibly the weakest on there, whilst the title track has to be amongst one of the greatest songs ever written. Howie il Duckie is a great guy but sadly he is an unbeliever at times

After listening and refamiliarizing myself with Crime of the Century, I found it to be a great album and it makes this the toughest choice yet.

IMO, it is two totally different sounds. The Supertramp disc is far more polished and the sound quality is head and shoulders better than ISOTLC. Crime really has a lot going on. All of the songs are beautifully written, many changes throughout, many songs have a gradual buildup (which is something I like). I agree with Howard's assessment a bit though, many of the songs seem to be a bit on the long side.

I adore In Search of the Lost Chord. The "concept album" really shines & the journey it takes you on is great. The feel of this album is super.

It is really a tossup, and I could choose either depending on the mood. However when I played both albums back to back on repeat, I found myself enjoying In Search of the Lost Chord a bit more. So for today I will cast my vote for The Moody Blues.

Crime of the Century - 3
In Search of the Lost Chord - 3

The Moody Blues is a pretty fantastic band, and In Search of the Lost Chord is of no exception in terms of brilliant pacing throughout a concept. But I like the groove and bumpers at the end of the album especially (not to denote from the rest of the album, but the first and final track are just outright fantastic). One vote for Crime of the Century.

Crime of the Century - 4
In Search of the Lost Chord - 3

God-damn it Howard! It's called "Breakfast in America"! From, you know, the album of the same name? One of their most recogised songs?
