Progressive Rock is great. It's for those who like less simplistic music, that sort of works your mind to keep up with the progressions in the songs. Most progressive songs don't have a chorus, which is cool, choruses can get on my nerves, *cough AC/DC cough*
|
Ac/Dc can be a little repetitive at times, though I don't think they're too bad. It's bands like Oasis that really go overboard on the choruses.
I love prog, though I've never listened to much King Crimson. All I have are some downloaded songs. I'm gonna try to pick up ITCOTCK with my Christmas $. |

I start cursing at the phone. :soapbox: |

If its a T1 or T3 connection on limewire, it takes like 15or 20 seconds to download the average song, or like 35 40 seconds for king crimson:) The key to limewire is searching for some of the lyrics in the songs sometimes because people are stupid and dont even know the name of the song, although that's usually the case with more popular tracks. I still have a hard time with KC, probly the worst band to find tracks from that I've experienced. |
BUMPAGE
Everyone needs to download In the Court of the Crimson King and Epitaph (one is going to be the AOTW this comming up week :D. |

Fan of King Crimson as well.
Some of my fave Crimson songs are: Fallen Angel Wake of Poseiden Court of the Crimson King Walking On Air 21st Century Schizoid Man |
My fav KC is Starless and Bible Black, but Red and Larks Tongue from their classic period (Fripp, Wetton, Bruford) rank up there. Like some posters have stated, they can be difficult and pretentious, but they can also blow you away. In fact, I think they're one of the heaviest bands ever. If you don't think you can tolerate some of their experimenting, check out 3 double live albums Fripp has independently released, representing the best tunes from 3 eras of KC. First, "Night Watch" which represents the aforementioned Crimson, second, "Absent Lovers" (Belew and Levin), and finally the height of their pretension as well as loudness, the "double trio" version recorded on "Vrooom Vrooom".
|
Haha, I don't doubt their heaviness. There are certainly some hard hitting parts on Larks' Tongues in Aspic. :D
|
They've gotten progressively heavier with a few notable exceptions.
|
My favourite from what I've heard are Walking on Air, Epitaph and Easy Money.
I neeeeeeed In the Court, Red and THRAK. Then I'll be happy. |
I relistened to Thrak and I'm really impressed. People is one of my favorite KC tunes now. As is Dinosaur.

Love that one to. It seems less original than others on the album though.
|
I've always been into the early KC stuff but in the past few months I've slowly drifted to Tony Levin era stuff. Discipline is just amazing (though the vocals on Elephant Talk annoy me for some reason).
|
God, Discipline and Beat are incredible. Three Of A Perfect Pair has more funk influence than Beat and Discipline, and I love it for that!
|
You should check out Giles, Giles & Fripp. The band before King Crimson, their album The Cheerful Insanity of Giles, Giles & Fripp is flawless.
|
Eh, their not really a prog group. Sort of psychedelic pop. I dig it, but not that much.
|
Well since this is a thread about King Crimson and Giles, Giles & Fripp has two of the founding members of King Crimson, I thought it was relevant. They are a bit more poppy, but I dig their witty lyrics though their music is really good too. There's some classics there.
|
Well Discipline is just as much a pop album.
|
Steve Wilson (Porcupine Tree) managed to get together some of the members of KC, although just for one day.
I am still rooting for temporary/simbolic reunion of the Red team (plus David Cross on violin), because reunion of the whole group is impossible because of the Fripp-Lake relationship (well, Wetton could step in). |
Huh, I forgot to mention why the reunion - they joined together in Air Studio in London for re-recording of albums In The Court of the Crimson King, Lizard and Red in 5.1 technic.
|
You can download King Crimson albums from here-
Taringa! - King Crimson Discografia 320 kbps The Court of the Crimson King album isn't working, so for that album, go here- http://www.taringa.net/posts/musica/...-320-kbps.html |
King Crimson yay.
And In the Court of the Crimson King? Yeah, it's classic, it's a huge influence, but it's marred by one thing. Its name is "Moonchild". It's a nice three-minute song, with about ten minutes of shapeless improv. The definitive version would be the one on 1991's Frame By Frame, which dumps the improv, much to the song's improvement. Anyway, reccommendations, if you get Court, Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Starless and Bible Black and Red, I think that's the definitive King Crimson. |
God i love these guys! Robert Fripp proves his creativity with odd-time signatures and interesting songs. I just love to hear their songs since i was 10
