I haven't heard these guys. What do you think of the Australian Pink Floyd? Obviously, the real PF is the only way to go, but after watching these guys on TV, I was quite impressed. They have actual PF set pieces and another thing they can brag about is that they played for Gilmour at his birthday party. Of course, the most important thing about them is that they did a damn good job.

Just a quick word on Saucerful of Secrets as I'm listening to it. As far as psychedelic space rock textures go this album captures them beautifully, even if lyrically these guys still hadn't matured yet. There's still enough trippiness here to keep me interested, and lyrics are still alright at least. This is probably my favourite pre-Meddle album.

I do very much enjoy Saucerful, but I believe that Piper is among their best period and definitely the best pre-Meddle album IMO. Any fans of Ummagumma? I thought it took an...induced, shall we say?, direction with their music that I really thought was crazy enough to work.

I thought the live stuff on Ummagumma was pretty good. The rest is very out there, but not unlistenable. Certainly I wouldn't be showing it to anyone who hasn't explored most of the other Floyd albums first.

On that note I was impressed with Grantchester Meadows though; the rest is just a bit too "sound" making rather then "music" making.

thing is, about Pink Floyd, they're all just one unit, you can't really which fella ends and which begins - all four were pretty faceless

unlike, say, the Beatles who were all distinctive

which makes the fall-out rather perplexing

Waters saw himself as the 'leader' after Barrett departed the band. He also became increasingly demanding -- even firing Wright before The Wall tour. I think even Waters is now willing to admit that he was difficult. Having said that, I have always felt that Waters was the main creative force behind the band. They all played an important role, but Waters brought the vision.

apparently the fans didn't even know he wasn't in the band anymore until TFC came out and he wasn't listed as a band member! although I think I've also read that his name doesn't appear in the credits anywhere on The Wall!
