Pink Floyd and Radiohead

i was sitting here listening to the bends when it suddenly hit me how similiar floyd and R'head are. both in sound and their stance in the world of rock. both use studio production and sounds heavily. both are completely experimental and progressive. both have produced to album masterpieces. And both are seen as just about as weird and out there as you can get. anyway, what do you guys think?

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-16-2005 01:56 PM

I see what you mean but I think Radiohead have more in common with Can than Pink Floyd

Enfilade 01-17-2005 03:38 PM

I had the exact same revelation as you! I was sitting on a plane listening to the Bends and I had Dark Side Of The Moon in my bag and thats exactly what I thought too! I definatley agree with you..

Mr. Jones 01-21-2005 02:37 PM

now now ladies cant you talk about the music? (aimed entirely at you aenima)
i can see what you mean about the similarity between r'head and pink floyd but they are still extreeemly different

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-21-2005 03:51 PM

I think both bands did the same thing , but the opposite way round.

Pink Floyd were an experimental band & sacrificed that to become a stadium rock band , Radiohead were a stadium rock band that sacrificed that to become more experimental.

I think Pink Floyd`s best work was Obscured By Clouds but that always seems to get overlooked because of more successful albums. In fact The Wall just bores me to death.

i prefer the old cliche that is darkside of the moon.

[MERIT] 01-25-2005 06:59 AM

sorry 'bout the catfight. i'll try more music and less banter.

bonzodrummer 01-25-2005 09:18 PM

Rick Wright was the keyboard master, you can't say pink floyd without thinking of a synthesizer and a mind bending solo by gilmour

bonzodrummer 01-25-2005 09:19 PM

no one ever recognizes ummagumma by floyd, one of their best albums

RedEye 01-26-2005 08:21 AM

Radiohead have moved on a lot since The Bends tho'... you don't hear much Pink Floyd in Kid A... Autechre, Can, Aphex Twin yes...

I like the Floyd but much prefer Radiohead... better vocals, further outside the rock quotidian... plus Johnny Greenwood's an amazing musician - without him they'd be half the band IMO.

Anarchy doll 01-26-2005 09:13 AM

pink floyd is an awsome band with awsome guitar and some mind bending ideas...but they say that when he made the wall, that he kinda jumped the shark....

masterofpuppets 01-28-2005 09:31 PM

Pink Floyd, "The Wall"

I love Pink Floyd, and I think I can understand most of their lyrics, but In their movie, "THe Wall" I didnt understand the marching hammers and When hes singing "In the Flesh." So if someone could give me some insight it would be greatly appreciated.

blackTshirt 01-29-2005 01:56 AM

i would appreciate it too ;)

Henrah 01-29-2005 03:25 AM
