I'm glad someone agrees with me and actually has the balls to say they do aswell. I know there are many people on the forum who like Green Day and will read this and not reply because they are scared that everyone will argue with them and they will then not be considered 'cool' within some of the very accomplished writers etc. on this forum. I know there will be people who will post things along the lines of 'Green Day suck' and I pity them-they are the ones who are following the herd. There are the others who don't like Green Day and will voice their opinion and explain why. That's fine-you have your opinion, and not everyone likes the same type of music. I'm just saying that instead of complaining, I'm hoping that people can accept the fact that Green Day are accomplished musicians in their own right. Even though they might not be to your taste, they are still very good at what they do. And Pop-Punk is what they do, so if you accept that and see that Green Day isn't the cause of Punk's problems, then maybe we can get on with our lives and finally leave this tiresome subject alone.

i don't think there are too many people that are scared on here at all, we know what we like. i don't mind green day in all eras, but i do like their older stuff better. but the comment about asking my favourite bands who influenced them? heh, i highly doubt that NOFX, Husker Du and Hot Water Music would cite Green Day as a huge influence. but no doubt they have been influencial to pop music.

I would say some people (such as they girl who wrote the poor country song) stopped coming on here because of what people wrote back to them. They didn't like people bad-mouthing them so they left. I didn't mean to say scared, just worried in case they were the next person that the Musicbanter faithful would cast off. I was one of those people in my early days, and it's a bit annoying when no-one listens to what you are saying and disregards you as another poser.

I like Greenday, some of their songs are not that good, but all in all they are pretty good. Their old stuff rocks too. But Blvd. of Broken dreams is by far in my top 10 song list.

American Idiot was a fine album, if you think Green Day is going to keep writing about being socially inept and masturbation you're wrong. They're 30 years old, not teenagers anymore. People will always find something to bitch about. IF they still wrote like they did when they were younger, people would write them off and say they always sound the same, but here they are growing up and making some different kinds of music and people say they want old stuff. If you look for something to be wrong, you'll find something. The funny thing is, I remember when Green Day first broke into the mainstream in 94, punks everywhere liked the music, I'm talkin' people spanning from devout Oi punk, to the new generation of music listeners. You know why? Because then, punk wasn't a "big thing" when it came to mainstream. But as soon as it was. All of the music elitists wrote Green Day off because somebody who they didn't consider up to their level of musical knowledge liked the band. They just had to seperate themselves and be unique. So they turned away from GD to do this- which is funny because now - if you say you like punk and mention Green Day as a favorite band, you get marginalized as a pop punker by "REAL PUNK FANS OMG"- it's bull****. The whole idea of punk to begin with is to step away from society and to remove yourself from the kind of **** that society will put an individual through, and here punk fans are, outcasting people trying to enjoy music because its not up to their standards. Throwing away everything that punk stands for. Nowadays, its awesome to listen to old, relatively unheard of punk - or find the undersigned, overlooked bands... and that makes you a REAL FAN. Don't fall into the trap hobo. Green Day ****ing Rocks. I ranted. I still have more to say, but I am tired. One more thing, I bet if most of you got to ask your favorite bands who an influence was... I guaren-****ing-tee Green Day would be one of their influences.

I hate green days music, i think billy joe can't sing, quit making it seem like green day is the target of all our hatred. I can name quite a few more punk bands that get picked on.

Then why post it? Oh, cause rules are made to be broken i guess.

madeinNY 12-30-2005 01:51 PM

Maybe he wanted to get his point across.

sleepy jack 12-30-2005 01:52 PM

Whats the point? Boo hoo alot of people think green day suck and i can see why, fanboys need to get over their whining and worshipping long enough to realize green day isn' that good, and the fact they're extremely overated is also annoying.
