argh, genre is such a ****ty and disgusting word, abolish it from all dictionaries. may i just add that i cant see how people can label green day as punk- i have no idea where they get that concept from.

Sorry to start this thread up again, I can tell it didnt exactly go well before... But I can see why people call them punk. If theyre younger, they belive what their eyes tell them almost as much as their ears, so if green day look punk to them, they are punk to them. And if green day call themselved punk, theyre gonna go along with it really...
They do have a kinda punk side to some of their earlier stuff, but bands change, and green day have gotten more pop in their sound.

In my opinion.

Cause greeen day called themselves punk when they first came out then everyone thoguht they were bands like Blink, bowling for soup followed and were called punk.

I don't care what they are

I don't like them

and I don't think they are punk

I completely agree that they are a vey inspirational band, as far as punk is concerned, it is the "new punk" and I know that sounds stupid...but they are the origionals of something. They are he origionals that Blink 182, Good Charlotte and Sum 41 follow. Now I like songs by all of those bands but that does not nearly make them my faves!
But green Day has been around since the late 80's and you gotta give 'em credit for that.

Green Day original? Hahaha. Try The Buzzc*cks, The Clash, The Damned, The Ramones, and The Descendents. Same three-chord style.
That's "new" punk? Hahaha.

Actually, they've had the same consistent sound since the beginning. The lyrics, the simplicity, the catchy sing-a-long anthems, it's been there since day one. They were more apart of the 'scene' when they were on Lookout, but in terms of music, nothing drastic has changed.

Meh... I see a difference anyways. Not a big difference, but its there..
