Thats what I tell everyone that says they 'Love' Green day, the truth is they only love the Green day they hear on the radio or see on the tv, most of them haven't even got any of their old albums.

there isnt a big gaping difference between their oldest stuff and their newest stuff, although i totally agree that their first cd (1039 smoothed out slappy hours) is their best - i hope you were talking about this cd and not dookie, which is the one a lot of people think is their first. but greenday has always been poprock and melodic, and theyve always had a poppunk influence in their sound throughout their discography. besides the sh*tty recording quality, i see no reason why someone who likes green day's new stuff would hate their oldest sh*t.

Im not a fan of GD, nor do i own any of their albums, but I have to admit that back in the day, they used to play alot of shows with Filth and The Blatz. So, I give them some credit for that. But thats about where it ends for me.

I actually enjoy when a bands music evolves, it keeps music fresh. Some bands do a good job and come up with something thats totally unique and rocks, then get alot of slack from their core fans because it doesnt sound the same as the last albums. Then on the other hand, there are the bands that used to be somewhat unique and changed to make their music more radio friendly and appeal to a larger market. I dont necessarily blame them though, afterall they are making a living playing music while suckers like us get stuck working a 40hr week. Dire Straits said it best "money for nothing and the chicks for free". All in all i think the whole discussion is kinda pointless. If you like old Green Day good for you, If you like new Green Day, good for you, If you like crass, exploited, subhumans, good for you, if you like willie nelson and garth brooks, good for you...etc. etc. etc.
