Straight Edge

Straight Edge is when you do not use drugs, smoke, or drink, or f'uck. some people say you have to be a vegan to be straight edge. some people don't even eat sugar. what do you guys think about this life style?

I couldn't follow it. But I respect the people that have the disipline to follow it. And I think they practice Abstainance instead of just not screwing period.

sleepy jack 12-11-2005 09:45 PM

Its just casual sex.

half_baked87 12-11-2005 10:14 PM

he's correct, its only casual sex that straight edgers dont practice. i respect people who are straight edge, although nothing pisses me off more than an uppity straight edge kid who feels he needs to preech and even use violence to enforce his own beleifs. my friends and i got in a fight with a "crew" of straight edgers who saw us smoking a joint and flipped out, started pushing us around. i have no respect for those kind of fascists.

All_Nite_Dinah 12-12-2005 08:57 AM

Yea, um it kind of makes me giggle when people post "Straight edge is this and that" It makes me wonder if you;ve ever listened to minor threat(original proponents) In case you havnt listen to Out of step and take note of the part in the song that goes "Now this is no set of rules" I wish you people would get over trying to adhere to labels put into place 20 years ago and start living your own life instead of quoting wikipedia.

Fenixpunk 12-12-2005 09:06 AM

Ian from Minor Threat drinks, at least ive seen him drink before.

All_Nite_Dinah 12-12-2005 09:34 AM

Yea, Ian has baisically disowned the straight edge movement because it turned from being a positive personal choice to some sort of club, at least thats what he said.

Not eating sugar has nothing to do with being straight edge. Nor does avoiding caffeine. It's the fact that it's making your body act/feel a certain way (unnaturally). You should know that being straight edge, means you're living a healthy, poison-free, natural life. Whether you take it to the next level and choose not to drink caffeine or to live a vegan/vegetarian lifestyle is up to you.

Edit: I'm not straight edge, and I love drinking. As well as smoking, casual sex, and caffeine.

Mr Sensitive 12-12-2005 01:53 PM

It's not for me, I like drugs.

cardboard adolescent 12-12-2005 03:33 PM

It's like... counter-counter-culture! Woah!

I wish I could be that cool, but drugs are too much fun.

I do all of the above :)

But I respect straight-edgers...most of the time...if they are the stuck up ones that think EVERYONE should be straightedge and its the ONLY way to live and that ppl who aren't are less than them, then I hate them and want to wring their necks...:bringit: i respect their lifestyle, so they need to respect mine and not lecture me....

ohhaiemily 03-03-2009 11:19 PM

The basic lifestyle of Straight Edge means living the rest of your life without drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. Those are the 3 main things. Some even pursue it further - some abstain from promiscuous sex, some become vegetarians/vegans, some don't even take caffeine or prescription drugs.

Get your facts together, man. People who claim straight edge don't smoke, drink, or take drugs, and while promiscuity is a factor, that doesn't mean that they don't f'uck. Following a vegan or vegetarian diet is not a guideline of straight edge, although it is a lifestyle that many straightedgers adopt.

It's great for kids but stupid for adults.

7gaugejames 03-07-2009 01:04 PM

Straight edged; as follows,

Fugazi was the first I heard of going against sex drugs and rock-n-roll, that was a long time ago. I dont know if they did the vegan thing, but they didn't like the Vogon thing, Vogon poetry suc'ks

littleknowitall 03-07-2009 01:14 PM

I believe we got to the bottom of this one a long time ago In my first ever music banter thread :D

Gareth Brown 03-07-2009 02:00 PM

People seem to talk about self-righteous Straight Edgers alot but i think there are far more drinkers who say 'why don't u drink ure so lame111!!1'.

You come across as one ****ing moron in that thread.

Whitechapelfan200 03-07-2009 02:27 PM

The only bad things about it are not being able to drink, have sex,or eat sugar.I'm okay with not being able to smoke or do drugs.

Good thing for you the sex and sugar thing isn't really a part of it!

can_i_say 03-12-2009 08:45 AM

Ian said it best in the Social D/Youth Brigade docu, not a set of rules, but simply a way saying you have your **** together. I get pissed every couple of weeks and still feel I have a "straight" lifestyle.

Shoe 03-12-2009 06:01 PM

I guess you could consider me straight edge. But that's because I'm just not interested in drugs, alcohol or (casual!!) sex.. Maybe when I'm older but I don't want to mess myself up right now. I would never preach being straightedge though, people should be allowed to do what they want.

In the end it all comes down to what you want to do and what makes you feel the best about your life. If that means being 100% pure or whatever the goal of being straight edge is then all the power to them.

PinkCigarette 03-19-2009 12:28 PM

The only thing I do is drink from time to time. Casual sex is nothing I ever did, nor ever want to do, nor need to do and I smoked weed twice in my entire life.

Stuff like that just doesn't interest me. I have a husband so I get sex whenever I feel like it from him, drugs are not really my thing and drinking occurs like twice a year. Just not into it.

Antonio 03-20-2009 10:17 PM

yeah, i think i could do it. i don't really drink often, and i don't do drugs

turbonacular 03-27-2009 11:31 AM

I think that lifestyle is boring. Especially when stupid hardcore kids call themselves straight edge and they have no idea who the hell Ian MacKaye is. D=<

I just get sick of people always assuming that straight edge people refuse to associate/be around people who aren't. The way I see it, being straight edge is a choice I'm making for myself, and it doesn't have to be that way for everybody. As long as everybody's being respected, what's the big deal?

My feelings align with yours on the matter. I happen to be straight edge, but I do not actively seek out others who share my lifestyle choice. It is a personal matter, and whether or not someone chooses to drink or do drugs is no more my concern than the fact that I don't drink should be to them. It confuses me when it bothers people that you choose to abstain, even if you are totally respectful of the choices of others. But hey, different strokes for different folks, right?

adaytoremember19 04-06-2009 08:18 PM

im not straight edge and will most likely never be. i hang out with a lot of straight edge dudes and respect the way they choose to live. but everyone who does it as a trend is really living to the word...i love when you all say straight edgers haha :)

Q: how many straight edge kids does it take to finish a six pack

A: 1 as long as no one is watching.....

j/k I have a few straight edge friends, I admire the ones who actually practice what they preach. But I hate it when they start getting in peoples faces about things. But I am always open to a good debate.

I'm not the type of person to assume that an entire group of people but with my experiences with straight edge kids is nothing but holier than thou preachiness. that's when I would just light a cigarette or take a hit off my dugout and blow smoke their way.

Surell 04-18-2009 04:51 PM

I got X's on my hand right now but I'm not straight edge.

Dinosaur Jr. I ought to put what I wrote up about that show/night on here, I feel everyone needs to know of the magic that DJ can provide.

Good choice man, I was suppose to go see Atmosphere and P.O.S. on Tuesday, but the opportunity to go back up to Vancouver and visit my friends came and they're more important.

Surell 04-18-2009 06:38 PM
