I don't think this forum is famous for it's members staying on topic. Diving into whatever interesting topics suddenly presenting themselves >>> sticking to whatever the topic of the current thread is. To be fair, I can see why you might feel like you're (Elph) under fire to an unfair degree these days.

If anyone wants to shift their crosshairs to my ignorant ass, I'm totally ready to put up a fight.

I just think Elph ought to give in and show some good will towards superior music (metal). It would change his life for the better.

Let's talk hip hop.

I like how an accidentally omitted "f" in that part you quoted turned the word "shift" into "****".

I just listened to the posted track. I like the subtler details in background music, but otherwise it feels really repetitive to me, even for such a short track.

Hip hop thrives on loops so you should expect that to a degree. Did you like what it was repeating at least?

DOOM's coolness as an emcee goes without saying.

Some Gangsta's Paradise in there. How old is this track? Still not sold on the rapping skills of these guys, which I get is not what you're saying is the appeal to you anyway.

Yes, if it developed in a way that could keep me more engaged, then I did like the music as such.

Curious on how you feel about Death Grips, I could see it going either way.

If you just sort of look at how it sounds, I'm way more into that than the Madvillain track. I like the sonic characteristics of this one. It's just that, after about halfway through the track, I start feeling like the first half of the track is stuck on repeat. If it had built significantly on the beat, I'd have been way more into it. Not bad. Close, but no cigar.

Allright, so it's not actually archaic sounding - just of it's time.

EDIT: Instead of hi-jacking this thread, any future attempts at making me check out whatever could be moved to that "what should I listen to next" thread that I made a while back.

Right on, I was just curious because Death Grips is pretty metal-influenced for a hip hop group.

I think that hip hop tends to be repetitive in the similar way to minimalism where it's building off of an idea instead progressing to a new one. If you want interesting song structure, Shabazz Palaces is the be-all-end-all of hip hop in that aspect.
