Default I need some help!

As you may know, i've become quite obsessed with the Minutemen since i heard them. I regard them as my favorite band now, along with Black Flag.

As I got into the Minutemen i became really interested in SST records, which already carried some of my favorites - Black Flag, Descendents, Bad Brains, The D'icks, Meat Puppets etc. So I checked out Husker Du, and loved them as well. New Day Rising and Zen Arcade are both awesome albums.

The thing about Husker Du and the Minutemen is, while they definitely are punk bands, they are different. Minutemen are funky, Husker Du are noisy and...yeah. I also liked that album by The Cows that was uploaded, and that's pretty noisy and differnet as well. Another band I checked out recently and loved was Mission of Burma (cos of the video thread). They were tough at first, but I now love the album 'Vs'.

But history lesson over, to summarise i guess i'm looking for more bands like these:

Minutemen
Husker Du
Fugazi/Rites of Spring
The Cows
Mission of Burma

in other words, i want some bands that do things that aren't common in 'normal' punk/hardcore music.

Thank you.

I second Big Black and Butthole Surfers.

The Jesus Lizard seems to fit what you are looking for also.

Another few bands you fellows should check out are Secret Hate which just turned up on my media player and really caught my attention, apparently they released this Vegetables Dancing 7" in 1983 on New Alliance Records (Watt and Boons label back in the Minutemen days), it's really catchy hardcore shit.

Also Artistic Decline, I guess you could sorta compare them to the Minutemen and all that jazz. I downloaded their Random Violence album some time ago off here. If you want to download the album you can go there, also has a good deal of information on the band.

Just look up "post-punk" in allmusic.com, and I think that'll keep you busy for a while.

What he wants is good music. I doubt he cares if they're British. If he likes The Minutemen, I think he'll be able to like Gang Of Four. If he likes Mission of Burma, I think he'll be able to like The Fall.

Hiu - thanks for the list buddy, i've only heard 2 bands from it so i'm looking forward to checking out the rest. Ive heard Big Boys (i got into them through a texas hardcore compilation i think, and now theyre one of my favorite bands, i recently made a thread on them here) and fIREHOSE, because of the minutemen connection. I love them both, so good calls.

I'll check out Big Black and Butthole Surfers first, since both you and Moses recommended them, and i'll also download that Artistic Decline album. Whats the best album to start with by Big Black and Butthole Surfers?

I'll check out that album by The Fall as well, thanks.
