The thing is, I don't see Ramones to be as creative as The Clash, they just sound like a mix of The Beach Boys and New York Dolls. I don't understand how they can be considered an embodiment of punk (nor how their music can be considered punk in the first place).

Punk isn't about not giving a **** about anything, it's the attitude to want to change the world. I don't think the Ramones live up to that part.

It's hard for me to think of anything more in your face than Shane MacGowan.

Punk is a hundred different things to many people. To me, writing a double album taking in various musical influences instead of carrying on with 3 chord rock songs is pretty damn punk.

Well, they're one of the first punk bands. I guess the question is how could they not be considered punk.

I don't know where people get this idea that punk is about wanting to change the world. Of the original punk and protopunk bands I can't think of a single one that was about that.

But pnk has evolved since then. There are different ideals of punk, Ramones obviously don't give a shit, but on the other end of the spectrum The Clash gave a pretty big shit. I would rather listen to bands that are saying things aggressively than saying nothing aggressively.

the sex pistols were not punk imo. they had a couple of good songs but i think they were more about the fashion.
