Best skatepunk band?

Of course, you can skate to any music, but I'm thinking the fast, poppy, 90s Socal bands. You know, Pennywise, NoFX, etc. With that in mind, I'm not going to put Bad Religion on the poll, since they basically invented the sound (along with the Dead Kennedys). OK, GO!

Alfred 04-08-2008 05:41 PM

You forgot Millencolin, you bastard. :nono:

Anyhow, out of those, I vote for Lagwagon. Close enough to Millencolin, and overall, just a kickass band.

tjtech12 04-08-2008 05:46 PM

****! I was just thinking that. That's exactly who I missed. I could also have put the Satanic Surfers.

Alfred 04-08-2008 05:47 PM

Never heard of SS, but their name sounds Skate-punk-ish.

tjtech12 04-08-2008 05:48 PM

I think they were from iceland or something. They broke up last year.

Far Beyond Driven 04-08-2008 06:43 PM

I kinda liked NOFX when I was in like grade 6

SATCHMO 04-08-2008 07:34 PM

naturally, Being that much older than most of you, my leanings are (were) toward 80's skate-punk bands.
Descendants
Bad Religion
Dead Kennedys
7 Seconds
Gang Green
Suicidal Tendencies
Dag Nasty
Faction

I was gonna say Descendents, but they sound a fair bit different than a lot of the bands up there.

They're one of my favorite punk bands overall.

They're one of my faovrite punk bands overall.

They're def my favorite too. Nobody better come with any "godfathers of emo" BS, cuz I'll projectile vomit all over you.

tjtech12 04-08-2008 08:00 PM

I could also have put The offspring. And I said I wasn't gonna put 80s bands. But yeah, 7 seconds, Suicidal tendencies, Descendents: good stuff.

jacklovezhimself 04-08-2008 08:05 PM

So does like ska punk fit into this? Cause Less Than Jake would be a good candidate for the poll if it is.

timefornothing 04-08-2008 09:09 PM

To be honest, I usually associate NOFX with skating, if only because they have an expansive library and all the skaters around here seem to like them. But out of the bands discussed here, the Dead Kennedys are definitely my favorite.
How about some Bad Brains?

GravitySlips 04-09-2008 04:46 AM

out of those bands, probably Lagwagon.

i still don't get what makes a band "skate punk". Can someone tell me?

sleepy jack 04-09-2008 04:53 AM

Skate and Destroy>these bands.

I take it as melodic 90's punk (FAT Wreck Chord/ Epitaph) bands. I have heard the sound being described as Cali punk. But suicidals are also often thrown into the genre, probably becasue the wrote songs about skating.
I think alot of the cali punk bands were called skater punk because the band member often skated, they wore similar styles of clothing, and there music was often featured in skate videos.

Dead Kennedys and Bad Brains, I really can't see why they would be called skater punk.

BTW I picked NOFX based on there first 4 or 5 albums.

Mr Nic 04-09-2008 11:08 AM

As most of the choices are early 90s Fat Wreck type bands I'd also throw in Bracket, Face To Face & Shelter. From the list I'd vote for Strung Out...

Alfred 04-09-2008 07:06 PM

Bracket, another good band.

Bracket & Face to Face are good, but not really aggressive enough. More like Pop-punk. And I just heard Shelter a few minutes ago on Pandora.com. Pretty good.:band:

Alfred 04-09-2008 07:20 PM

Yeah, Bracket has some mellow stuff, but they've got a few songs that'd be pretty good to skate to (Everyone Is Telling Me I'll Never Win, Trailer Park, etc).

But yeah, they're more like pop-punk.

can_i_say 04-10-2008 02:41 AM

jackhammer 04-24-2008 06:23 PM

Circle Jerks
Gang Green
Suicidal Tendencies

Surge 04-28-2008 10:11 PM

I wouldn't really call Hot Water Music skate punk.

Haven't listened to Bouncing Souls.

jacklovezhimself 05-04-2008 08:34 PM

^^^ i find them both god-awful.

Alfred 05-05-2008 12:23 PM

Hot Water Music is pretty awesome.

FaSho 06-17-2009 11:19 AM

No votes for Guttermouth? Seriously? They'r ein my top three for best pop-punk bands, and definatley have the most interesting sound.

Biteit 06-18-2009 07:44 PM

JFA anyone?!?

Alfred 06-18-2009 07:45 PM

Lagwagon is clearly the best.

proxer 06-21-2009 11:19 PM

Against All Authority.
These guys were always in my cassette playlists in high school. I skated a lot back then, and these guys always pushed me further.

Although they aren't technically skate-punk, I would suggest Choking Victim and a lil bit of Leftover Crack's 1st album

DJ Phoenix 06-27-2009 03:44 AM

Like, when I'm skaing dude, i always listen to this "punk" stuff. These bands kiuck major punk ass:

All American Rejects
Good Charlotte
Sum 41
Paramore

They all rule dude!!!

proxer 06-27-2009 04:12 AM

^
Oh man, tell me about it.

Why are those bands even in a punk thread?

SuiCyco Punx 08-24-2009 01:37 AM

Can't believe Suicidal wasn't on the original list. WTF?!?
