To punks-in-my-blood: Eww...Something Corporate? So far from being punkrock it's not even funny. I don't get how you could say that. Also Sublime and Thrice aren't really punk either. (oh, and to set everyone straight, I'm speaking of only the "real" punk, not the overly broad genre that it has become today)
To Iamalejo: I agree with you that that list of bands (not counting Social Dis.) is a list that kids think are cool punk. While that's true, that doesn't really take away from the fact that they all play pretty damn good music. You say that the best bet is to just stay in the local scene, but that really kind of limits what's out there to listen to. I know what you mean and everything, but not listening to bands because of what genre they are in or how popular they are is just as bad as listening to music just because of that. I personally think why should anyone not care whether or not a band is the popular thing to listen to. If the music is good, than it's good.
Oh and for everyone: good "real"punk bands = subhumans, nofx, NUFAN, propaghandi, SNFU, Christ on Parade, millions of dead cops, TSOl, vandals, DOA, reagan youth, DRI, bad religion, Good Riddance. Just a list for everyone.

punks-in-my-blood 02-26-2004 03:20 PM

as i just said a couple of posts ago they are the MOST like punk in that list. and i consider thrice to be punk. and all of those bands you named are good and are "real" punk if that is even the case anymore, there are to many branches that i dont like, emo (bad), pop punk (horiable), hardcorepunk (best thing after punk)

banonbush 03-01-2004 08:13 AM

That's true about the hard-core punk. Agnostic Front kicks ass.

Crimson_Grin 03-02-2004 02:32 PM

Are We Talkin' About A Punk Attitude Or Punk Music ?

Sex Pistols Were more Attitude Than Music Which Is Why They're Seen As The Forefathers
And

Ramones, Waynes County, New York Dolls, Velvet Underground, The Heartbreakers And The Clash Were More Music And All Bar The Clash Came Before The Pistols.

I Personally Think That These Are 'punk' And Not The (In My Personal Opinion) The Sh*t You Called Punk. But Hey - My Opinion.

marked_as_infernal 03-05-2004 10:47 PM

I'm into a bit of punk,Against All Authority,Thrice, Sick of it All, Avenged Sevenfold, Thursday(is that even punk?), but what pisses me off most... is as someone mentioned before, how punk is turning into a fashion , more than people appreciating the music.
So many girls walk around my town, wearing black and pink shirts reading 'Punk Couture' or whatever and it's like wtf?
If they were true punks then they obviously wouldn't be wearing clothes labelling themselves....

prBAND88 03-06-2004 12:12 AM

You'all gotsta have

The Exploited
The Misfits
Germs
A Global Threat
Operation Ivy
Aus-rotten
The Casualties
The Nerve Agents
Dead Kennedys
Conflict
The Forgotten
Minor Threat
The Unseen
The Clash
Refused
Rancid
Capitalist Casualties
Cheap Sex
Circle Jerks
Black Flag
Ramones
The Virus
T.S.O.L.
Youth Brigade
Agnostic Front

the list could go on...

My point is there isn't really a "coolest" punk band, and all bands are different. You can compare all you want, but there is no "almighty" band. Remember, we're talking about "punk" bands.

First, those are ok bands, and no, Thursday isn't punk (however much they rule anyway), But the whole punk fasion isn't anything new, it's been here for like four years already. I say let the little shi ts be angry at the world, and when the next cool thing to do comes around, we can say goodbye to them. I personally find it amusing how many 14 year old girls are so angry at how bad they have it living in nice houses with good cars and all the clothes they can buy from hot topic. But oh well, I suppose you have to rebel somehow>?

im gonnagrow a dorsal fin 06-29-2004 09:27 AM

you think you people have it bad?? think about me, in london though there is loadsa cool bands etc in my school especially there is a majority of people who think avril lavinge is "punk" but these people tend to be beaten up by all the goth kids..

Lets Gets ReTaRdEd 07-23-2004 12:53 PM

I think Greenday are punk & i love them.Avril Lavinge is not punk i like her but she a punk dats 4 sure!!

yes, very good.

if you didnt notice it was sarcasm, and i layed it on pretty damn thick.

almost none of the bands anyone said were punk. so i thought id add to it.

covle 07-31-2004 10:50 PM

id first like to say something. somebody mentioned earlier in this thread that they "dont know punk because i live in australia". to you, i would like to say....YOU ARE A ****ING IDIOT. i live in australia also. the radios and channel v and rage and that that bull**** dont know punk, they dont play punk. the vines, greenday, whitestripes, blink....all these bands get air time in aus. and they are attempting to portray themselves as a genre they have no idea about. the presenters think they know a bit about music. the guys on channel v do, but the radio guys are ****s. i hate the radio. if any of you guys visit aus, listen and youll see what i mean. iamalejo and david frost, to me while reading this thread, appear to be the only ones with a distinct knowledge on this topic. no offense to anybody else, but these guys do know what they are talking about, and everyband they have mentioned that iv known, i have at least liked, and if i didnt know them then id check them out. somebody was also bitching about the punk princesses. who gives a **** what these young girls wear and want to think? get over it. the punk movement is dead. what we are shown is the standardised musical "skills" and to-cool-to-care presona's of bands mentioned at the start of this thread, and a large number during it. i do not mean to offend the other contributors to this thread. a few good bands were mentioned. a few great bands were mentioned. the main thing that ****ted the **** out of me was that aussie chick saying that crap. punk is here. there is a very strong punk scene in every state. it is just not expressed to the masses via the demeaning popularised forums...such as commercial radio.

flamingfishbone 08-01-2004 06:28 AM

I like quite a few Millencolin songs (mystic Reptile, In a room, Nosepicker), I love NOFX, I also love Strung Out. Some other bands i like are Rancid, Lagwagon, SOME Rufio (xept the vocals which can get annoying at times).... I also like a lot of older bands like Anti-flag etc., it's just that most of the time, I wanna hear something fast, to get the blood pumping, u know, mosh pit action LOL. That's what i like about NOFX, If u buy a cd like say, White trash, two heebs and a bean, you get ska, fast punk, slower punk, like a song for every "mood". Just my opinion, or uhm, something.

covle 08-01-2004 06:34 AM

if you like fast music, then why are you listening to those bands? to be honest i had my stage of rufio and lagwagon, many years ago. but that was when double plaidnum was a new cd...aka, a long time ago.
if you like fast stuff then get into bands like thrice and atdi-relationship of command album. theres heaps more stuff out there. a lot of better stuff too, if you dont mind me saying

flamingfishbone 08-01-2004 06:38 AM

I don't mind, thnx for your reply.
Yeah i know there are faster bands and stuff, but i like Strung Out and Bigwig for example, because they take all the best parts of metal, and combine it with the best parts of punk (ok my opinion)hehe.. and i like the zeke song "evil dead", basically fast stuff with sick solos, but the thing is i prefer the way the bands i listed sing over the hardcore/speedmetal type of singing. Anyways, which other bands can u recommend to me?

covle 08-01-2004 06:50 AM

well, since you are just starting to get into the music, ill give you some not so extreme yet still awsome bands to get into.
at the drive in, thursday, coheed and cambria, sparta, the mars volta, dead kennedys, thrice, refused, the (international) noise conspiracy, boy sets fire, the used, and you will know us by the trail of dead, muse, blood brothers(they may be a bit too hardcore), taking back sunday and less than jake-for some good old ska music. a lot of people would say **** like finch and dashboard etc etc. im not a fan of these kinds of bands personally, but you should probably check them out as a lot of people do listen to them

flamingfishbone 08-01-2004 06:52 AM

Uhm, i didn't hear any songs from thrice that are fast, nor any from sparta/ at the drive inn, i mean like Greencorn/evil dead/strung out fast songs

flamingfishbone 08-01-2004 06:53 AM

or like, slayer angel of death

flamingfishbone 08-01-2004 06:54 AM

it's not punk, but fast and the solo... whoo..just the singing...

covle 08-01-2004 06:56 AM

check out dillinger escape plan

flamingfishbone 08-01-2004 06:59 AM

Yeah i know them but i don't like them THAT much, they're pretty good though... See i've been listening to punk for about 2 years, it's just that i have a pretty picky taste i guess... LOL...

covle 08-01-2004 07:01 AM

the plot to blow up the eiffel tower, trail of dead, bay of pigs fiasco-these are some crazy bands you must look at

David Frost 08-01-2004 10:06 AM

the plot to blow up the eiffel tower is amazing. one of the best bands around right now. also people NEED to check out 1905. female fronted political punk with singing and screaming. these are some bands that should be going places.

SheepFly 08-26-2004 04:31 PM

I think the casualtes are the best Street-Punk band fasted paced music yay

riseagainstrocks 08-26-2004 04:41 PM

The Casualties are fashion punks if I ever saw some. What punk rock was supposed to be dies as soon as th Ramones "broke" up. Punk was a movement that took a provocative name (punk meaning peon and other very graphic definitions) and said f*ck you too the system. They got in trouble for just playing what they did. No band is "punk" unless they aren't allowed to play almost anywhere. Lets use that as the standard shall we and erase alot of these misbeggoten ideas of what punk rock is.

And David, Ashanti is punk as f*ck

plus lets all try to stay on topic

tunapickle5 08-26-2004 09:39 PM

OPERATION IVY! going back now, what? really punk like the Quincy PunX yeah but they were really bad now that i listen to them. eewww oH yeah Billy Idol. poster boy!

xfuzzylilteddyx 08-26-2004 09:50 PM

I think the best punk band is The Clash. Indeed.

teenager7x 08-29-2004 12:07 PM

yeah none of the bands you listed are "punk". New Found Glory is disgusting nasal singing bull****, and puddle of mudd is some kind of nickelback **** scraped off every crappy band that failed in the past..I would have to say, check out the Ramones or the Clash, thats some good ****..my stepmom is from Australia, yeah no scene there l guess...

David Frost 08-29-2004 02:49 PM

for some thrashy punk check out

Jenny Piccolo
Charles Bronson
Quill
Orchid
Combat Wounded Veteran
Swing Kids

covle 08-29-2004 10:32 PM

do you live in australia? have you ever been here? how the **** would you know if there is or is not a scene down here? why say **** which you have no idea about and cannot on any level back up your stupid goddamn theories? you would have no ieda about whats happening down here so ****ing bite me.
