I mean from what I've read didn't Rancid stay on an indie label their entire career? They're half of Operation Ivy for heaven's sake.

And Green Day was very much the punk ethos at the beginning of their career and its why they got so much grassroots attention. I'm not talking about the American Idiot Green Day here...

well, Rancid's album "Indestructable" was distributed by Warner.

I would have to say The Pixies. Their sound was way more innovative and original. And they were more prolific and versatile during their short career and the sound from each record is seemingly different. Whereas if you took a track from In Utero and put it on Nevermind it really wouldn't make a noticeable difference. I'm not trying to be pedantic though, its a subjective decision and i like both bands. It just seems like Nirvana gets too much credit these days.

"Whereas if you took a track from In Utero and put it on Nevermind it really wouldn't make a noticeable difference." LOL.

Yeah, cause "Polly" and "Tourettes" sound exactly alike when played side by side.

Try cleaning the wax out of your ears, it might help your hearing.

There are plenty of noticeable differences in style and sound between Nevermind and In Utero. Nevermind has a glossier production while In Utero is rawer-sounding and has more of a live feel to it. In Utero features more dissonant guitar tunings and deep down-tuned bass, giving the album a more abrasive sound, while the guitars on Nevermind sound more tuneful and punchier. In Utero also has a darker and more aggressive feel to it and is less pop-influenced compared to Nevermind. I can't really imagine a song like 'Serve The Servants' fitting in on Nevermind, likewise I can't imagine 'Drain You' fitting in too well on In Utero.

I agree with everything, except I'm not "too sure" about the raw & live sounding aspect of Utero. That would depend on the individual really. Its too Pop.. to sound "Live" and the "Raw" aspect goes to the album "Bleach".
In my opinion the Darker and Aggressive (Punk) feel is "dominate" in all.. of Nirvana music Personality.

I agree both albums are different in sound and style though. "Actually", just (a little) different.

Well maybe not live sounding but it does have a raw feel to it. Bleach is obviously their darkest and rawest album of course, but I was comparing Nevermind and In Utero since AgeOfOddz stated that there is no real difference between the two.

Maybe I'm just not a big enough Pixies fan, but I have a hard time remembering if one of their songs is on Surfer Rosa or Doolittle. The differences in production between those two albums isn't far off from the differences between the Nirvana albums...

No, but Polly and Dumb sound very much alike. So does Territorial Pissings and Tourettes. Yes i agree Nevermind is very polished and glossy but sometimes i just get the feeling that In Utero is Nevermind recorded live with less production. My statement might have been a bit far fetched though, In Utero does have a darker feel too it.
