I grew up on this sub-genre or whatever you want to call it, and love a lot of the bands mentioned in this thread. I'd also like to mention one of my current favorites, The Lawrence Arms!

The flipside of that, though, is that Dan is one of the main reasons I enjoy Alkaline Trio. I absolutely love the sound he gets out of his bass and I think it compliments pop punk perfectly. A very underrated bassist he is, hmmm.

Oh yeah, and that acoustic version of 'Standard Break From Life' is beautiful too...

i dont understand the hate that green day gets. it seems like the only excuse people have is that they sold out. i can honestly say that i enjoy every single thing that green day has put out, not because i'm a fan, i just genuinely think everything they have put out so far sounds great. american idiot was a masterpiece, not one single song on that album has gotten old to me yet, and 21st century breakdown while not exactly a total masterpiece, was also amazing. However 21CB gets much less play on my ipod when compared to american idiot, dookie, warning, etc.

blink is also great, but sometimes their music sounds too whiney and "teeny bop" for me. still awesome acts.

Ramones are awesome too

Their Remains thing that they put out is something I'll recommend to anyone. Great stuff.

Alkaline Trio has the most plays on my last.fm. I got started with Remains and while Goddamnit and Maybe I'll Catch Fire have probably passed it in my mind, some of my favorites are still on Remains. 'Hell Yes', 'Metro', 'Rooftops', and most especially of all 'Old School Reasons' are all excellent tracks and it blows my mind that they were b-sides and such...
Alkaline trio really is a great fun band....and i agree that their cover of "Metro' is almost better than the original, it honestly blew me away how good it was...and how that song fit perfectly as a 'punk' song....i have to say that i prefer the self titled "collection" over 'Remains'...mainly for 'Bleeder', My Friend Peter', and their cover of "The Exploding Boy'...they have written some of the greatest hurt boy music

I do like Alkaline Trio. Trouble Breathing is my favorite song by them.

However, a band called Homegrown is definitely my ideal pop punk band. NOFX has some pop punk stuff that I like, too.

I'm not quite sure. I think they came out after Sublime broke up.

Bleeder, My Friend Peter, and Trouble Breathing are all awesome AK3 songs... One of my favorites is Cooking Wine. You guys ever listen to Skiba's split with Kevin Seconds? Amazing stuff, some of my favorite.

yeah that split was ok....my problem with is that kevin seconds needs to pull his head out of his ass and start doing good hardcore again...i want my 7 seconds back

there was another short lived side project that Skiba was in...around the same time that split came out
