Hands.fucking.down.

One would be hard-pressed to come across a punk band with more across-the-board creativity, thoughtfulness, better lyrics, etc.
Especially one incorporating Latin so easily into their songs.

Apart from Pedestrian's opening post and my own attempt at explaining a little history about this genre (however well or badly written), virtually every other post has just been a YT vid with maybe a line or two why said song is so kick ass.

I want to hear other peoples thoughts and views on the scene as a whole and maybe learn something new or debate about specific eras in the scene.

It is never too late to learn something new but the fact that Refused* have been mentioned more than a few times kind of makes me sad because these sort of threads should excite, educate and introduce Hardcore Punk and tell me WHY you like it or find it important.

*BTW I have nothing against Refused. TSOPTC is a great album but there are more out there and I would love to hear them!

Well, I wish I could contribute more to this thread, Jackhammer, but my knowledge of hardcore punk is rather limited and dwindles down to only a handful of bands: Husker Du, Bad Brains, Dead Kennedys, Infest, and Refused.

Here's a conversation starter: I don't think that Refused are anything special and that all they did with their The Shape of Punk to Come album was barrow concepts and ideas from post-punk. Start a discussion... someone prove me wrong. (I want you to!).

Also, feel free to recommend a few albums for me to listen to. I would love to expand my taste in the genre.

I just let the songs speak for themselves.

I have already suggested bands in previous posts and introduced some U.K bands (Conflict for example) that are worth checking out and maybe not that well known.

I agree with your Refused paragraph though. Right band at the right time and I like them but there is more out there. I think they incorporated Electronica far more than post punk.

As jackhammer said, the electronic influence that Refused brought to the genre was something quite unique after nearly 20 years of bands sticking the the same old "pure" guitar-bass-drums instrument lineup. And I have yet to hear a hardcore album which came before it that is as loud, crazy, or adventurous.

Edit: original post has been edited with a few words about each song.
