Have you guys heard this song that didn't make the album? It's obvious why it didn't, it's a pretty minimal, simple song; but I still like it as much as most of the others. The chorus is one of the catchiest they've written.

Plus the title of the song wouldn't fit with the rest of the songs. Pretty good song though

Didn't hear that Alfred, cheers for that. Yet another good choon. They have such versatility as well, none of their songs sound that similar, good to see.

Don't read this if you're easily jealous...

I'm seeing Hot Water Music, The Menzingers and La Dispute in 12 days!

I kind of want to catch that tour, even if I'm not as big a Hot Water Music fan as I used to be.

I'm sure if you saw them though, it'd blast some nostalgia into you

I read this about the album on another website.

Quote:
If Ernest Hemingway was alive today and making punk music, it would probably sound something like The Menzinger’s On the Impossible Past. The sound of the album is distinctly American, but more than that, the lyrics are comprised mostly of simple language that is capable, at times, of absolutely flooring you. Mundane moments transform into profound ones. A lovestruck couple carving their names into a cliffside becomes a springboard for the realization that “happiness is just a moment.” Being bored and drunk becomes a desperate avoidance of responsibility. And, most memorably, riding in an American-made car somehow encapsulates, briefly, everything that it means to be a part of this country. This album is monumental. It is the epitome of what every working-class, small-town band has been trying to do since pop music began. “All good things fall apart,” they shout. But heartbreak ends eventually, and good things still remain
I didn't write this but somewhat wish I did. I think this passage perfectly encapsulates the album and expresses it in a way none of us here have been able to do so.

A-fucking-men. ^^^

A lot of people don't like the album art, but I think it's very fitting. To me, it's the girl that they keep singing about on this album, all grown up now (saggy tits and all). The way she's putting her hand over her chest, it's like "who, me? I'm that girl?"

Yeah, grand album. I hope it still hits me as hard at 27 as it does now at 17.

Great live band. Caught them last year with the Flatliners, and they stole the show. Also, On The Impossible Past made my top albums list of 2012...but then again, it probably made everyone's!

Going to see them 9th of August if everything works out, so glad they're back after a year and so close to home! Touring alongside Tigers Jaw who I've just been checking out, they seem decent.
