I'll shut up about Combat Rock being my favourite then.

Howard the Duck 04-18-2012 10:22 AM

^^at least it's not Cut the Crap

James 04-18-2012 11:18 AM

They're all great, but London Calling is my favourite.

My favourite punk album is The Dead Kennedy's 'Give Me Convenience Or Give Me Death'

Unknown Soldier 04-22-2012 04:19 AM

Not sure if they've been mentioned but the debut album by the Adolescents is very good, especially on the tracks they really play out on, like this one.

Good stuff eh, its considered the second most important west-coast punk record after the Dead Kennedy's debut

Unknown Soldier 04-25-2012 12:35 PM

I'm listening to the Ruts debut for the very first time, I can't believe that I'd never heard this album before, its a punk classic and the Ruts sound like the New York Dolls meets the Clash:band:

^ great album. One of my favorite.

Steve Soto played bass for them before he went and joined Adolescents. On the original "Bloodstains" 7".

Great band, saw them live here a couple years back and smoked a joint with Mike Palm. Nice guy.

Heard for the first time today as was very impressed, I knew about the connection with the Adolescents when I was listening to the Adolescent's album.

of course they never were

Flyingpig437 04-28-2012 08:25 AM

Everything about the Pistols and Bollox completely blows other punk out of the water in every single possible way.

I love Bollocks, even if it's a bit overproduced. Johhny Rotten is just one of the most charismatic and unique frontmen of all time. Easily my fav punk vocalist.

meh. I like that album, but wouldn't call it the best. One of the most influential I will give it. But I can not say it blows everything else out of the water. Look at the albums I have listened and give some a listen and you may be surprised.

Most of the albums you've listed are a load of bollocks.

BastardofYoung 04-28-2012 12:06 PM

quiet you.

Giselle 04-29-2012 07:56 AM

Has to be Never mind the Bollocks, otherwise there would be nothing to talk about in the first place.

That makes it the first, not the best.
If YOU think it's the best say why YOU think it's the best, don't just offer some lazy reason like that.

Flyingpig437 04-29-2012 04:38 PM

I think Bollox is the best because of Rotten's voice and lyrics mainly. I think it's bizzarre that he ended up being in the band in the first place but then for them to somehow find a musical formula and then of course an attitude/lifestyle/outlook or w/e that enabled him to use the expressiveness of his voice is what best defines punk and obviously with them being as good as the originators then they get uber cred for that. I can see how people might think it's 'overproduced' for a punk album but it still sounds sorta tacky like a punk album should. Any less well produced or performed and it'd be too amateurish any more and it'd be too proffesional. They lyrics and themes seem stunningly original to me to and brilliant. I just love some of those lyrics. Bodies? What the **** is that!!! Who ever came up with something like that before? Bodies actually has a mini overture to it which is a very inspired idea from Jonesy or Glen Matlock or whoever came up with that. They're very ominous chords aren't they which just sets you up for what's to come perfectly. I never get over how original and exciting and powerful the Pistols music is well the songs from when Rotten was in them. It was such a freak of fortune that that band ended up together.

I like the Sex Pistols but I wouldn't call them the best, they pretty much defined punk for me but bands like The Damned, Killing Joke, Magazine and Big Black took the genre one step further.

such an amazing album.

just awesome.

riff kinda does remind me this:

Just been listening to the Bad Brains debut and what a classic, ranks up there as one of the best hardcore debuts along with Dead Kennedys, Black Flag and Agent Orange. If I had to choose just one, I'd probably go with Bad Brains its pure chaos.

BastardofYoung 06-07-2012 06:07 PM

Yeah, and with enough dub influence to break the tension. Though I usually skip those songs.

Is one of the best.

That's one of the things so great about it, its pure hardcore chaos and in the blink on an eye its reggae which serves as a breather (I don't even like reggae but BB mix it in just right) before going back into the hyper hardcore of the rest of the album. One of the songs on this debut album, was used in one of the GTA games to great effect.

Forward To Death 06-08-2012 03:43 AM

Right Brigade was on GTA4, and S/T Bad Brains is definitely a top 3 punk album. I'd go with either that, Damaged by Black Flag or Suicidal Tendencies S/T. I listen to more hardcore than anything else.

BastardofYoung 06-08-2012 03:44 AM

You should check out Big Boys, and their compilations "The Skinny Elvis" and "The Fat Elvis".
