Bob Dylan's song Blowing In The Wind, recruited more young people to protest the Vietnam War than any anti-draft or student organization in the United States. And guess what? Blowing In The Wind was a success from a strategic perspective. Over the next 10 years protests over the Vietnam War forced the war machine known as the United States government to withdraw from the war of aggression against Vietnam.

I can give you a half a dozen other social movements in which music was a central aspect to the agitprop tactics of the dissidents involved in social movements. I can't imagine the American Civil Rights movement without crowds of people singing We Shall Overcome, Wade In the Water and other spiritual songs.

The most magnificent moments in the South African struggle against apartheid were those humongous crowds of protesters in the street singing traditional tribal songs, as illustrated by the South African stage play Sarafina:


You seem to have more of a problem with left leaning politics of punk music because you sound like Rush Limbaugh on steroids.

Just one guy's opinion, but for me it's a tie between the debut album by The Clash and the only studio album by the Sex Pistols (NMTB). Those 2 albums really caused revolutionary waves around the world, not only because the music was raw, honest punk, but also because the lyrics were heavy in political and social messages. Back in England in the late 1970's, they were never afraid to be anti-establishment. I wish I could have experienced that scene.

That album bored the hell out of me, except for a few songs, even though I liked the adolescents.
Am I the only one? I thought the little bonus track interview they threw in at the end was more fun than the actual album. Maybe my opinion will change after a second or third listen. Or maybe surf rock's not my thing :c.

Out of the punk I've listened to, I guess Minor Threat-Complete Discography(technicly not a studio album but **** it), and Stiff Little fingers-Inflammable material. I'll also throw in Suicidal Tendencies by suicidal tendencies. Keep in mind, that I still have a lot of ''classic'' albums I need to listen to, I don't know all of the albums you guys suggest, but I will soon. I'm not sure why, but there's something about Minor Threat that I love.

You're not the only one, the others really disappointed me.

Also, why does everyone like Machine Gun Etiquette by the damned so much? I really thought Damned Damned Damned was better.

edit: I wanna throw in an album none of you probably know about, but I really liked Vitamin X - Full Scale Assault. They're a thrashcore band from Amsterdam, but on this album they slowed down quite a bit. May not be nowhere near the best punk album, but it's a great modern hardcore punk release imo.

Living in Darkness is one of my favorite albums, it was unique. I like the dark surf rock element that carries it as much as the punk rock. "Bloodstains", "Everything Turns Grey" and "The Last Goodbye" are some of my favorite punk songs ever written.

But yeah, if surf is not your thing, it may be tough to get into.

Do you just like straight up hardcore?

I don´t dislike it, but I was bored of it for the most part. I did like Bloodstains for example.
I do like straight up hardcore, but also other bands I guess. I'm not sure, I like stuff from The Wonder Years(poppy modern pop punk), The Offspring(Some ''Mainstream'' punk band) to Minor Threat(Typical 80's hardcore punk), to D.R.I(early DRI was Thrashcore, very fast hardcore punk) so, yeah...I'm not sure. But I do know that some of the bands I really like now, I didn't like the first time I listened to them. So I guess things can always change. My Favourite Punk genre is Ska Punk, because it sounds so happy, and I just love the off beat ^.^.

My scrobbles are inaccurate as **** for various reasons, artists I listened to a lot of times have 0 plays on there, so don't pay attention to that. Also keep in mind some bands I don't really like are there. For example, Sum 41 is there because it's nostalgic to me, it was the first band I really listened to.

My Favourite bands are The Flatliners, The Wonder Years and Streetlight Manifesto. It's because one of my hobbies is singing, and I think those bands are fun to sing and have nice lyrics. Most bands I listen to just..aren't fun to song for me, or can't even be sung(I'm looking at you bands with scream/growl/grunt/shout/yelling vocals like Thrash Metal Bands).
All Three released an album I have a certian emmotional connection to, those albums feel important to me.

The Flatliners-''Cavalcade'' And ''Dead Language''.

Funny thing is, I thought all of these albums were ''meh'' The first time I listened to them. Strange xD.

But I also love the Dead Kennedys, Fear and Minor Threat.
So yeah, I love both ''real''(for lack of better word) punk and the punk a lot of punks hate, or just don't really care about.
But I do hate bands like Fall out boy and all time low though, that's going too far for me.
