To start with, being a communist doesn't mean being Stalin. Ever heard of Rosa Luxemburg's beliefs? Socialism is nothing without freedom. Freedom of speech, of press. That's not stalinism, is it.

The second thing - The Clash was pretty far from nihilism. They were never like the Pistols, shouting No future and all that. Joe declared himself to believe in socialism. Didn't like the authorities then, though. He loved people and believed in them. "Without people you're nothing", remember? Check out the Strummerville foundation.
