To start with, being a communist doesn't mean being Stalin. Ever heard of Rosa Luxemburg's beliefs? Socialism is nothing without freedom. Freedom of speech, of press. That's not stalinism, is it.

The second thing - The Clash was pretty far from nihilism. They were never like the Pistols, shouting No future and all that. Joe declared himself to believe in socialism.
