No but this isn't actually a joke???? Like punk has been whitewashed to be about cishet white dudes when it was basically started by POC/sex workers/queer ppl? Like it's not okay. Not at all and I refuse to see it as a laughing matter

this is 2014, not 1977...it doesnt matter what it started out as, 35 years later a whole new generartion (and even another one) defines it for themselves....I can even go further and say that music is an "individual" experience: what matters is the perception and emotion to each individual listener, regardless of its social status impact

I have a lot more respect for a person that listens to bubblegum pop because thats what he/she likes without any influence from peers or social groups as opposed to a person that claims to like a music style because of what its supposed to stand for within a certain social circle
