That man will say anything to get attention.

The Batlord 12-04-2015 05:00 PM

Since drunkenness caused me to have a list of twelve albums last time, let's try this again. BTW, I care neither for any order -- besides the first position which is non-negotiable, CAUSE ****ING ARKANGEL!!! -- nor do I gives a **** about genre distinctions (which is why this list is so dominated by early metalcore/metallic post-hardcore/powerviolence).

1. Arkangel - Dead Man Walking
2. Converge - Jane Doe
3. Unbroken - Life. Love. Regret
4. Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols
5. Snapcase - Progression Through Unlearning
6. Madball - Set It Off
7. Poison the Well - The Opposite of December
8. Yacopsae - Tanz Grozny Tanz
9. Nails - Unsilent Death
10. Reprisal - Boundless Human Stupidity

Hypocrisy 12-04-2015 05:15 PM

1. Black Flag - My War
2. Suicidal Tendencies - S/T
3. Misfits - Walk Among Us
4 The Exploited -Troops of Tomorrow
5. The Sex Pistols - Never Mind The Bollocks
6. Agent Orange - Living in Darkness
7. Subhumans - The Day The Country Died
8. The Dead Kennedy's - Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables
9. Bad Religion - Recipe For Hate
10. The Cramps - Big Beat From Badsville

Not in order particularly ... and no repeat bands.

The Batlord 12-04-2015 05:44 PM

And just because probably no one has ever heard of Reprisal, bask in the brutal awesomeness (and yes, the Youtube quality sucks)...

Mondo Bungle 12-04-2015 06:14 PM

Disembodied > Arkangel hella

Hey, punk is punk. It's all good. You checked out Cave State or Weekend Nachos yet?

Nope, what is they?

And if Black Sabbath, Cryptopsy, Electric Wizard, and Blind Guardian are all metal, then I don't see why the Sex Pistols, Madball, Converge, and Pere Ubu can't all be under the same umbrella (Pere Ubu just missed the cut).

They're like sludge fused powerviolence. I've mentioned them a couple times when you were talking about it.

And are you saying Sex Pistols should be considered metal? I'm confused.

I mean the Sex Pistols, Madball, Converge, and Pere Ubu should all be considered punk if other genres are so inclusive.

prisoner437x3y0 12-04-2015 08:49 PM

minutemen-double nickels on the dime
the fall-live at the witch trials
thee headcoats-beach bums must die--"damn your fucking work"
fugazi-furniture

are the albums that really stuck with me

The Batlord 12-04-2015 09:03 PM

You need another six. I know it's punk to ignore rules, but this is a forum for OCD weirdos. You need a Top Ten. Don't **** with us. We'll **** with you.

prisoner437x3y0 12-04-2015 09:16 PM

honestly haven't listened to much more

Love birthday party and i should have added london calling

thats about it like post punk quite a bit.

I was real into nirvana for a while so i got into the wipers and butthole surfers and that stuff but didn't stick with me like the aforementioned stuff

rooster241 12-04-2015 11:01 PM

Technically most new wave is post-punk so you wouldn't be at fault posting a list with Devo or Talkng Heads here.

They're from Italy right? I think i saw them at one of the new year eve fest they used to have in Belgium during the H8000 glory days. I may be mistaken though.

But i clearly remember the Arkangel performance there... They played a song and a half before the vocalist and a guy from the audience started to fight. The shortest set by any band this night for sure

Does The Batlord also enjoy a bit of Liar maybe?

Yup. Italian. I can see why they would play in that scene, though, being a bunch of vegan straight-edge types.

How were Arkangel live (assuming you could get a good idea from one-and-a-half songs/you'd seen them elsewhere)? They sound like they would obliterate a sweaty, stamp-sized club.

Can't remember if I've listened to them. After discovering Arkangel I checked out a bunch of other Belgian metalcore bands, including H8000 bands, but aside from a couple I wasn't that impressed. I think they might have been a little too close to the hardcore side of metalcore and I'm pretty hit-or-miss with pure hardcore. I'll give them a listen, though.

totosama 12-14-2015 03:13 PM

Liar is 'black metal influenced vegan straight edge metalcore'. A narrow niche.

The Batlord 12-14-2015 03:37 PM

Just checked out their Invictus album. Pretty solid, but the production felt a little thin.

Still need to check out Weekend Nachos and Cave State, Batty. Best get on that before your powerviolence spike ends.

totosama 12-15-2015 12:38 AM

Let's add Spazz (La Revancha or Crush Kill Destroy), Coke Bust (Lines In The Sand or the Confined EP), Slight Slappers (A Selfish World Called Freedom is a good place to start) and the first Tomorrow Will Be Worse compilation to this powerviolence mayhem :bringit:

I say as long as something at least related to punk (reasonably) it can be considered as part of punk. Thus; new wave, grunge, 2 tone, post-hardcore (duh), post-punk (also duh), and metalcore count. Warped Core stuff is a little iffy, as well as the poppier new wave acts, but if someone were to add them in their list I wouldn't argue so much as an Aerosmith or Avril Lavigne release.

Great list too.

Mondo Bungle 12-22-2015 03:32 PM

Might have to reimagine my top ten

1. NoMeansNo - Sex Mad
2. Dead Kennedys - Frankenchrist
3. Cap'n Jazz - Analphabetapolotholgy
4. Circle Takes the Square - As the Roots Undo
5. Green day - Dookie
6. Orchid - Dance Tonight! Revolutions Tomorrow!
7. Rudimentary Peni - Cacaphony
8. Bad Brains - Bad Brains
9. City of Caterpillar - City of Caterpillar
10. NoMeansNo - Wrong

I love Cap'n Jazz, but I prefer Burritos, Inspiration Point, Fork Balloon Sports, Cards in the Spokes, Automatic Biographies, Kites, Kung Fu, Trophies, Banana Peels We've Slipped On, and Egg Shells We've Tippy Toed Over over Analphabetapolothology. Just feel like the extra tracks are a little unorganized compared to the debut album. Though, I sorta like the disorganization too.

Mondo Bungle 12-23-2015 03:04 PM

It's some kind of order. Like, Wrong should be up further for the masterpiece it is. But It's fairly accurate, do in fact prefer Sex Mad to Wrong.

Guess it's my top, who'd think that

As much as I like Wrong, it's usually a tough listen. It holds a position as the first album I ever fell dead asleep to. During the daytime.

I still need to listen to Sex Mad (seems like I say that with a lot of releases).

Mondo Bungle 12-24-2015 03:26 AM

Did it sound dull?

What about your metalcore list? Powerviolence? The world wants to know. And does your punk list really not include any of those two genres? Surprising.

Mondo Bungle 12-24-2015 05:00 AM

Probably could put Entheogen, but yeah, s lot of amazing albums but not that special one, the classic. Referring to metalcore, that is. Some metalcore 10/10's for me

Bloodlet - Entheogen
Undying - At History's End
Prayer Fir Cleansing - Rain in the Endless Fall
Zao - Where Blood and Fire Bring Rest
Norma Jean - "Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child

Anyone could make the list, but the ones in said list I hold dear.

Powerviolence, I dunno about any top ten worthy albums. Some super greats but not enough imo. New ACxDC new album Is something I could get behind nominating

bob. 12-24-2015 06:04 AM

i haven't heard that Zao album in years....

i would add

Deadguy - Fixation on a Co-Worker
Will Haven - El Diablo
Integrity - Humanity is the Devil

I guess parts of it were just monotonous for me, though fully awake I do enjoy it from time to time.

Hell yeah! PEARS and Propagandhi! I have a lot of these in my top 10 too.

Chelly Vennicoe 01-27-2016 11:44 PM

This is a difficult one for me, as there are a lot of punk albums which I adore, so, to keep things tight, I'll run off a top 5 instead - I had a bloody top 20 in my head.

In no particular order:

1. Killing Joke - "Killing Joke" (1980)
2. The Heartbreakers - "L.A.M.F."
3. Rudimentary Peni - "Death Church"
4. The Stooges - "Fun House"
5. The Outsiders - "Calling on Youth"

PaulSzu 02-14-2016 10:15 AM

I'm more a '90s punk fan :)

Rancid - ...And Out Come The Wolves
Bad Religion - Suffer
Pennywise - About Time
No Fun At All - Out Of Bounds
AFI - Sing the Sorrow
Descendents - Everything Sucks
Bouncing Souls - How I Spent My Summervacation
Vandals - Hitler bad, Vandals Good

TBC... :)

Rob Humanoid 03-25-2016 06:36 PM

It's UK82 for me... :)

10) UK Subs - Another Kind of Blues.
9) Mr. Nipples and the Dangleberries - Nipples Militia.
8) The Freeze - Misery Loves Company.
7) Dogsflesh - Revival of the Species.
6) Black Light Mutants - Acid Burn Alice.
5) GBH - City Baby Attacked By Rats.
4) Sick On The Bus - Go To Hell.
3) Sick On The Bus - Punk Police.
2) The Exploited - Troops of Tomorrow.
