They're are a pop punk band, hence their top 40 appeal that launched punk into the mainstream so it could become commercialized and made safe.

See I'd agree with that, accept that they were the band that set the stage for pop punks emergence. I don't think them being top 40 automatically means they're pop punk. I think as releases go on and they start to incorporate alternative into their sound they kind of become a pop punk band.

Well, when they came up the pipeline everyone thought as them as pop punk, and the media labelled them as pop punk at the time, they definitely weren't trying to be the Circle Jerks. Obviously their sound progressed as they got older.

Yeah, but I'm not the guy to call a band something just because the media or someone else labeled them that.

Well there you go then, back in the day in they were thought of as a pop punk band in the underground circuit, choose to label them what you like.

I actually made half a video on pop punk. Said first half is about traditional pop punk like screechin weasel, the other would be about the "modern" style that is so hated birthed by a combination of sum41/blink/green day and a bunch of emo pop bands that weren't the good type of emo. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YJu1hTkF-Oc

Ever check out Ignite? They're melodic hardcore, but they're poppy as all ****. A lot of people probably wouldn't dig their singer, but if you can get past that they're like crack.
