Load and ReLoad are metal. Alternative metal, sometimes groove metal, sometimes more hard rock or alternative rock, and so on. There's some variety, especially on ReLoad, but there's metal there for sure.

The best Offspring album is Smash. I'd call it pop-punk, but I don't really have a horse in that race. I'm just going by the musical style. Could call it alternative rock, I guess, and I wouldn't argue much.

The moment where I recoiled in disgust with Offspring was when I first heard "Pretty Fly for a White Guy".

This is seriously the ultimate phat jam though and it's absolutely not punk.

That's pretty cool. Kinda sounds like it could have been on Smash.

There are more punk bands then there are stars in the sky.

I should clarify. I mean "commercial punk" as in bands that don't do it because they believe in it, but because they're riding the wave of a form of music that's got a lively scene happening. Commercial is the wrong word. I just meant to say that I doubt most punk bands are punk in more senses than just the musical style.

The reason I pointed it out was just that it seems people often disrespect pop-punk because it doesn't live by the punk ethos and less because it sounds different.

Yeah no Offspring have a bit of the sound but the overall sound is pop music in a way that isn't elitism, it's just not punk. You can hear the cynicism designed to sell records. Even Green Day don't have that by a mile.

If that moment didn't make people recoil in disgust, here's one that will - and I like a lot of the Offspring's material but this is inexcusable. They used to be able to write songs like "Pretty Fly", "Cool to Hate", and "Hit That" as a sort of satire, but this song is laughable for all the wrong reasons - the lines between satire and ****ty music are getting blurred:

Yikes. That's a little worse than I expected. That autotuned "californiaaa" line that keeps coming back is one of the worst bits. I haven't heard their last many albums and that's probably for the better.

Anyway, this is a favorite of mine from The Offspring.

Offspring started off really well and sort of got worse as time went on. Americana was certainly a downturn.
