I think it's pretty tight for what it's worth. Dee Dee might not be a singer but he certainly knows what a tune is.

A truly solid album for a band as burned out as the Ramones must have been after a decade of having to be around the Ramones.

And that bit not quite 1:30 in where the music almost stops, two drum beats, and then Joey kicks in and the song picks back up is another little tiny moment of drama that is the difference between the Ramones and countless other imitators whose songs legitimately do all sound the same. The Ramones know how to make a million similar two minute songs that all sound distinct and find ways to grab you in idiosyncratic ways.
|
Incidentally, the best Ramones action is still calling a song Judy Is a Punk, and then starting it with the line 'Jackie is a punk'
|
Jackie was the first girl in any "X girl is an X" song and yet she never had a song named after her. **** the Ramones.
|
Oh and there's another typical random brilliant riff in Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue around 0:30, preceded by and equally random '12345678!'
Everytime I listen to one of these albums it keeps surprising and delighting me again and again |
All 3 of those are great observations Marie

The last two minutes of this song are bar none the most intense moments in all of rock, including any form of punk or metal. It's kind of not even a contest. It's so shambolic and mad that I don't know that the Stooges were even in control of themselves at the time and as it's a studio recording that's a hell of an effect to pull off. Just imagine being at karaoke night and trying to replicate Iggy's performance. You'd die. You'd ****ing die. And everyone there would probably be really pissed off.
The pendulum has definitely swung for me. "Sheena Is a Punk Rocker" is not a better rock song than "Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell". It's simply impossible to be better. |

Speaking of real music though...not sure if anyone's really at Les Rallizes Denudes's level. A lot of people cite Suicide near the tail end of the 70's, but I've always loved these guys. |

No, I was objectively correct. And then you embarrassed yourself by bringing up Tool.

Kinda hard to top that. |

Yeah he shouldn't go to Kenya. Boy can't live five miles from Vermont.

I never said heavy. I said intense. There is in fact a difference.

He peppers his indefensible politics like that as well - throwing out distractions and redirections He had already drowned himself with that Stooges comment but like a Tourette’s case he had to spew then he tried to cover it up with the suicide LRD thing |
So synth punk isn't real punk? Got it.
|
Yeah I totally said the Stooges were the first synth punk band.

Lol dude...your whining about 'distractions and redirections" after writing off my loving praise of Les Rallizes Denudes and Suicide.
