I think it's pretty tight for what it's worth. Dee Dee might not be a singer but he certainly knows what a tune is.

It’s the word of god same as any other

A truly solid album for a band as burned out as the Ramones must have been after a decade of having to be around the Ramones.

That's totally true, and then it is a great example of one other thing that I love about them: one of those random Ramones riffs (first time at 0:50) which has no reason to work but works brilliantly. It just comes completely out of nowhere

The Batlord 09-24-2019 03:21 PM

And that bit not quite 1:30 in where the music almost stops, two drum beats, and then Joey kicks in and the song picks back up is another little tiny moment of drama that is the difference between the Ramones and countless other imitators whose songs legitimately do all sound the same. The Ramones know how to make a million similar two minute songs that all sound distinct and find ways to grab you in idiosyncratic ways.

Marie Monday 09-24-2019 03:48 PM

Incidentally, the best Ramones action is still calling a song Judy Is a Punk, and then starting it with the line 'Jackie is a punk'

The Batlord 09-24-2019 03:52 PM

Jackie was the first girl in any "X girl is an X" song and yet she never had a song named after her. **** the Ramones.

Marie Monday 09-24-2019 03:54 PM

Oh and there's another typical random brilliant riff in Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue around 0:30, preceded by and equally random '12345678!'
Everytime I listen to one of these albums it keeps surprising and delighting me again and again

OccultHawk 09-24-2019 04:07 PM

All 3 of those are great observations Marie

The Batlord 09-25-2019 09:10 PM

The last two minutes of this song are bar none the most intense moments in all of rock, including any form of punk or metal. It's kind of not even a contest. It's so shambolic and mad that I don't know that the Stooges were even in control of themselves at the time and as it's a studio recording that's a hell of an effect to pull off. Just imagine being at karaoke night and trying to replicate Iggy's performance. You'd die. You'd ****ing die. And everyone there would probably be really pissed off.

The pendulum has definitely swung for me. "Sheena Is a Punk Rocker" is not a better rock song than "Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell". It's simply impossible to be better.

Thus the theory of unassailability. Two or more songs can simultaneously be the greatest song ever.

Eh that's kid's stuff. Maynard from Tool held a scream for like 20 seconds at the end of The Grudge. The man is unstoppable.

Speaking of real music though...not sure if anyone's really at Les Rallizes Denudes's level. A lot of people cite Suicide near the tail end of the 70's, but I've always loved these guys.

Stick to smooth jazz cause you clearly don't understand anything else.

No, I was objectively correct. And then you embarrassed yourself by bringing up Tool.

*This pre-metal song is the heaviest thing ever recorded. Nobody even comes close. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhh.*

Kinda hard to top that.

If that’s your take on bats take on the stooges get help.

The Batlord 09-26-2019 06:46 PM

Yeah he shouldn't go to Kenya. Boy can't live five miles from Vermont.

It was literally his first sentence lol. I was being snarky with the Tool reference...I guess the phrase "kid's stuff" (or referring to Maynard as "unstoppable") wasn't enough of a red flag for you walking on eggshells types.

The Batlord 09-26-2019 06:51 PM

I never said heavy. I said intense. There is in fact a difference.

They're a little too grounded for the crown tbh. I'd say that Keiji Haino is a lot more unforgivably intense. Fushitsusha for the rock end of it.

Well I think you are a pretty swell guy. I wait with bated breath for the day you'll rediscover the endless ecstasies that The Clash have to offer. Could the fated day be nigh for a critical re-evaluation of 1982's seminal Combat Rock?

Weueww, I don't think I've heard that one. Nice rec.

Utterly fantastic.

A desperate attempt to make a meaningless thought seem worthwhile by dropping names reserved for people with taste who’ve done their homework

He peppers his indefensible politics like that as well - throwing out distractions and redirections

He had already drowned himself with that Stooges comment but like a Tourette’s case he had to spew then he tried to cover it up with the suicide LRD thing

Anteater 09-27-2019 03:52 PM

So synth punk isn't real punk? Got it.

The Batlord 09-27-2019 03:54 PM

Yeah I totally said the Stooges were the first synth punk band.

Because it was a pathetic cover-up for comparing the stooges unfavorably to ****ing tool in the lamest post possible

You guys are literally bitching and moaning about a funny Tool joke. What are you going to do when something legitimately traumatic happens?
