Hopefully as you become more acquainted with the art you will appreciate the truth of my statement.

We can only hope now cant we

i like Kanye but his albums are overrated. College Dropout only had 8 good songs & Late Regisration about the same. First half of Late Reg. is great second half terrible except one song. Gold Digger & Diamonds are forever song is garbage. Just cause they but Gold Digger on video & radio everybody gotta ride it.

cas 02-11-2006 09:32 AM

Kanye has pretty good production, decent to below average lyrics (which he gets alot of help with), and a god-aweful flow. He lacks the total package to put him among hip-hops elite.

Besides... he more of a pop artist than a serious rapper. I like my hip hop sugar free.

holdyoualways 02-11-2006 11:53 AM

i actually like kanye west. i just downloaded his album a couple days ago & i used to absolutely dispise rap so downloading an entire album of it is a big step for me. anybody who doesnt like goldigger is pretty much dead inside.

Just consider Kanye a "gateway drug." Once you try the real stuff you'll wonder WTF you were wasting you time on him for.

took the words right out of my mouth. He's a good producer, i'll give him that, but more than anything he's a good market. He's not a talented rapper, and his lyrics suck, horribly. What he IS good at is marketing his image. His music is a product, not an art or an expression of individuality.

Mascara 02-12-2006 01:07 PM

I don't like Kanye at all, I don't like his style or his flows thus far in his music. His lyrics in Jesus Walks (And some other songs) I can appreciate however, I quite like Common though. (Who Kanye produced apparently, or atleast his latest album) ^^

bungalow 02-12-2006 01:08 PM

Early Common is 100000000x better than "Be"

Mascara 02-12-2006 01:16 PM

I do agree, but nevertheless I still like his latest album.

cas 02-13-2006 07:44 PM

Common's last good album was Resurrection. He's pretty much sucked ever since he got turned out by Erykah Badu IMO.

Imonlydancing 02-14-2006 12:18 PM

I like some of kanye West's stuff.
I was listening to him today infact.

TrampInaTux 02-19-2006 04:26 AM

I think he's fantastic. Outspoken and honest-great qualities in a rapper. His lyrics aren't the best I have to admit but he is a fantastic producer and the beats in his rhymes more than make up for his song writing abilties. Plus, it's fantastic that he's in the game. It's great to see rapper talking about something and then doing something about it, rather than just trying to sell records.

Green Day Rocks 02-19-2006 09:27 AM

Kanye rocks

Kanye rocks man ESPICALLY Goldigga!!!!

I love you Kanye West!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:whythis:

hookers with machineguns 02-20-2006 10:04 AM

Kanye is not that great. Maybe a few catchy songs here and there, but it isn't inspired, most of his albums are filler not-even-catchy-enough-for-clubs kind of material. But for someone in the public eye, in comparison to the rest, he seems like a breath of fresh air. If you think Kanye has depth, then there's much hope that you will like a lot of other rappers that aren't in the spotlight. Keep an open mind.

Tis Kanye not Kayne.

I'm not generally a fan of rap but I like his stuff. He has the whole package happening.

I'm not so sure about that. So many people, and I don't just mean in MB, type it incorrectly and still think they are right.

Well i must have not come into contact or just never noticed.maybe thats why in one of his songs it says "some of my plastics still say Kayne" mind you im not sure what he means by plastics

Plastics means fake. Basically people jumping on the bandwagon. I'm sure most of the people who enjoy Kanye West's songs are non-rap fans, and I'm thinking the same for most of the people on this thread. Whenever I hear anyone say they like Kanye West I immediately think 12 year old girl who shakes her undeveloped booty to Goldigger. But as a rap fan, I can say in all honesty that Kanye West rates as one of the best rappers to come out in recent years, and is climbing up the ranks on my list of greatest rappers. His beats are fantastic and nearly all the songs on both his albums are solid gold. He listens to the people and gives them what they want, such as getting rid of all the skits that plagued his first album and piling on the tunes in the second. Sure his lyrics may not be top of the list, but it's refreshing to see a rapper stay away from tales of the ghetto and guns. It's nice to see a rapper with his own style, own opinions and own issues to talk about, rather that another same old 'I been shot 17 times nigga and I'm still a pimp, I'll fuk ya ho' sh*t that goes on today.

yeah, except there are rappers who stay away from lyrics talking about guns, violence, bragging about money and how many women they can get, and yet are actually talented lyricists, which is MUCH more than can be said about kanye west. His lyrics are rediculous, his flow is horrible. The only redeeming quality he has is that his songs are well produced. However, ALOT of more underground rappers have really good lyrics, that actually have meaning, great flow, and amazing production. Kanye west is more image than talent, he markets his music and he does it well, but he's no different really than any other mainstream rapper out there right now. He's created an image and his success is a result of that image.

Bingo!

TrampInaTux 02-22-2006 09:50 AM

I agree, Kanye is more image than talent, but when both are so fantastic then it's not really a problem. I agree there are better rappers out there, but Kanye is still brilliant. You say he doesn't have much talent? Well being a top class producer is a talent. His best quality isn't his lyrics I agree, but when a guy has a flow so good and production so good then it makes it hard to care. Rap's about 2 primary things-the lyrics and the beats. Kanye's already got one nailed, and he's pretty good at the other one too. He's had 2 fantastic albums and he's still young-he's got plenty of time to improve.

Well this is where we disagree. alot. I don't think he has good flow. I don't think he has any flow, at all. I don't think his lyrics are bad, I think they are god awful, and that a dyslexic monkey could write better lyrics than him. He's a pretty good producer, but that alone isn't nearly enough to make up for all of his other huge shortcomings as an artist.

Lol you were being so pediantic, and yes, it is always about me. It's not the first time you've made a smart ass comment to me.

SeaShells 02-23-2006 03:17 AM

It isn't?? I wasn't being a smart ass. Like I said, nothing personal.

To be truly successful, image and talent go hand in hand. Kanye delivers on both accounts.

Oh and by the way, it's p-e-d-a-n-t-i-c. ;)

Danusia Rolewicz 02-25-2006 04:27 AM

yeah but what the f is he on the pr front?.... one idiotic rentaquote after another, if he were all about the music, he would shut up outside the studio innit.

My nephews really like kayne west but they are listening to the jammxkids alot more often lately which is cool, kayne west is perfect for kids though IMO its also an appropriate hiphop group. Jammxkids is more colorful though thats for sure

TrampInaTux 02-26-2006 12:49 PM

Kanye West is good for kids? What? Don't you read the parental advisory stickers on it? It's not good for kids, it's rap-IMO no rap is good for kids. Rap is good, but look what it has done to society.

hahaha, look what it has done to society? are you f*cking kidding me?
so what exactly has rap done to hurt our society? portray violence in a glorifying manner? shown women in a degrading and objectifying fashion?

look at any aspect of the media, they ALL do it. don't single rap out. Rap is only doing the exact same thing that every other portion of popular media does. And you know what, they do it because it sells. Because our society was functioning this way LONG before rap existed.

TrampInaTux 02-27-2006 03:56 AM

I'm not denying the fact that other forms of media do it. I love rap and I always will, but you can't honestly say that Rap hasn't made things worse. Over here in England kids wearing hoodies and gold chains stand on street corners rapping, with a spliff in one hand and a bottle of Stella in the other. I know some kids that were fine before they got caught up in Rap, but now that they are caught up in it they probably have files all over the local police stations. It's not just rap, but rap really hasn't helped. I hope no-one from some goody-goody Rights group is reading this now-I don't want Rap to be banned...

hahaha, oh come on. I can honestly say that rap hasn't made our society worse. Those kids who are "caught up in rap" as you put it aren't acting like f*cking idiots, drinking their braincells away and poisoning their livers because they listed to a few rap songs. they would act the same way regardless of what kind of music they listen to.
