The ONLY Kanye West Thread

What do you think of Kanye West? And will you be picking up his album "College Dropout" when it hits the streets? I think I might, because I think he's one of the realest rappers out there right now, but I need to hear some more of him before I make up my mind.

JackJeckel 01-28-2004 07:43 PM

He's good, but not as great as some people are hyping him up to be. I'll probably pick up College Dropout, I got the advance a while ago and it's definately hot.

Yeah, I just started listening to some of the songs from the advanced copy and it's pretty damn good. "Never Let You Down" is a great track.

Mr K.West is amazing, his album is the bomb its very different (in a good way) from otha stuff. If u liked his singles u should buy it. i give it 9 and a half out of 10

Better producer than rapper.
All Falls Down, Jesus Walks, and the cut with Talib were all hot, but the rest of College Dropout was boring pink sweater rap. The relatively new Diamonds song is pretty weak too.

HuKitKat 08-26-2005 01:01 PM

he made front cover of Time magazine this month. Congrats Kanye!!

My thoughts exactly.

Kanye West sucks

SosSt.Jimmy 08-27-2005 11:48 AM

Yea, Kanye's pretty tight and boy came he make beat! I listened to "College Dropout" for five months straight and it's just now starting to see it's way out of my CD player. I can't wait to get his new CD, "Late Registration."

juggalodaewoo 08-27-2005 02:32 PM

i heard the whole album about a week ago pretty fresh definately worth buying

shandapanda 08-27-2005 04:40 PM

well my bro and i were listening to some of his new songs and they weren't anything special. he's a good sampler but i think he can get a little crazy with it, not in a good way it gets boring...i doubt i'd ever actually get any of his albums....

SATCHMO 08-28-2005 01:14 AM

He made the cover of Time magazine this week.

DUUUHHHH

TheBig3 08-28-2005 11:00 AM

I think he said that in reference to the question "what did you make the Grrr post for". im almost certain he can read and understands someone already posted it.

Satchmo is now Kurt Cobain to Kanye's Eddie Veder.

i'm almost certain you're wrong on that one, if you read back he said that he agrees with someone that kayne is a better producer then rapper, to which i also concurred and proceeded to say that i think he's shit live just like most rappers today, i think his "grrr" was aimed at the " i think he's shit live, just like most rappers today"

Hype8 08-31-2005 01:16 PM

I saw Kanye's performance at Live 8 he was sweatin A LOT. But he had a lot of energy in his rap, and everyone was feelin it and recitin "Jesus Walks". I've also seen some other performances at awards shows and such. I do mean he sweats A LOT, but his performances seem to come from the heart. Now how corny does that sound

HuKitKat 08-31-2005 01:38 PM

i like Kanye's lyrics, but I wouldnt buy his album either. I've got to love the music to buy the album.

Thats probably why I dont have that many albums. My cd collection consists of songs taken from different cds from different artists. The downside is that there are some radio songs that suck, but the album may contain a few good tracks. I might miss out on those cuz of the crappy nature of the radio release.

adidasss 08-31-2005 02:35 PM

the man has enormous talent, not only musical, i saw some of his paintings on tv, quite amazing, but, i have to say, he's not the brightests one in the bunch now is he....i've heard an interview with him and.....well....he didn't do too well.....he had a message for all the rappers out there...it went something like this " em, y'all need to stop with this *** bashing man, cause it's like........wrong and stuff......it's like.......................................it's like discrimination and stuff..............."

sikoholickkouboi 09-01-2005 05:49 AM

Yeah, but at least someone said something. Hip-hop kinda REALLY needs to hear that more often, imo. Or as someone else said....

“He is almost onto something very important,” Peterson said. “He is gesturing toward the fact that it is somehow fundamentally wrong for people in hip-hop culture to discriminate against anyone, because the history and experience of the culture suggests open-mindedness.”

rap fiend 101 09-10-2005 12:15 AM

kanye, is he number 1, for right now?

all i have to say for kanye is dat his music is crack musik

rap fiend 101 09-10-2005 12:16 AM

Kanye n Game, gotta be the best new rappers in the hustle, if not the best.

Hype8 09-10-2005 10:02 AM

Kanye's been appearing on a lot of TV shows. I just saw him on Oprah yesterday, touching performance of "Hey Mama" to his mother. I still can't stop playing "Late Registration", just an amazing album one of the best, if not the best hip hop album this year. Period.

MusikMack 09-10-2005 02:24 PM

I think he's definitly overrated. Didnt like College Dropout, like his new one (only heard about 3 or 4 tracks) even less.

He is a better producer than rapper, but even his production is only average.
His beat on "Guess whos Back"(Jay-Z) is a guilty pleasure though.

Hype8 09-10-2005 04:09 PM

Man you really have to at least download the album in full. I bought it and blasted it on my CD player one night and became hooked the next morning. You can't say you don't like an album if you only heard 3/4 songs, that's why i have to at least try to listen to 50 cent's albums before I make my decision.

On to Kanye's album though, it really is different from mainstream rap today. If you compared it to the Ying Yang Twins, Tony Yayo, any other new release it will sound way different and ahead of its time. Dope beats, dope samples. I love the classics. Even Paul Wall sounded good on Drive Slow.

College Dropout is dope too, it's catchier than Late Registration, maybe that's why it was more accepted by mainstream rap fans. I guess it really depends on your tastes in music. Late Registration is dope. College Dropout is a great debut.

rap fiend 101 09-10-2005 05:28 PM

My mama took me to Sam Goody's
I wanted to buy a 50 Cent CD
I took that **** home
That **** was wack like a mutha****a
Don't **** with Game

I like 50 Cent
He reminds me Spongebob

They're my friends
Psyche

anticipation 09-15-2005 03:41 PM

Late Registration is all i gots ta say nephew.

Kanye is the first real real fly rapper in about 10 years besides Snoop.

gregb 09-19-2005 10:54 PM

Kanye is some fresh air, but his ego is larger that anything I've ever seen, this guy is in love with himself. He's a decent rapper. Most of his rap is predictable and formula. He should stick to producing.

adidasss 09-20-2005 05:22 AM

I don't know how the game makes anyones list.

You have to admit he's a pretty good rapper.

I don't like rap myself, but his song Jesus Walks was very good and I appreciated the lyrics.
