i like Kanye's lyrics, but I wouldnt buy his album either. I've got to love the music to buy the album.
Thats probably why I dont have that many albums. My cd collection consists of songs taken from different cds from different artists. The downside is that there are some radio songs that suck, but the album may contain a few good tracks. I might miss out on those cuz of the crappy nature of the radio release.

the man has enormous talent, not only musical, i saw some of his paintings on tv, quite amazing, but, i have to say, he's not the brightests one in the bunch now is he....i've heard an interview with him and.....well....he didn't do too well.....he had a message for all the rappers out there...it went something like this " em, y'all need to stop with this *** bashing man, cause it's like........wrong and stuff......it's like.......................................it's like discrimination and stuff..............."

Yeah, but at least someone said something. Hip-hop kinda REALLY needs to hear that more often, imo. Or as someone else said....
“He is almost onto something very important,” Peterson said. “He is gesturing toward the fact that it is somehow fundamentally wrong for people in hip-hop culture to discriminate against anyone, because the history and experience of the culture suggests open-mindedness.” |

Kanye's been appearing on a lot of TV shows. I just saw him on Oprah yesterday, touching performance of "Hey Mama" to his mother. I still can't stop playing "Late Registration", just an amazing album one of the best, if not the best hip hop album this year. Period.

I think he's definitly overrated. Didnt like College Dropout, like his new one (only heard about 3 or 4 tracks) even less.
He is a better producer than rapper, but even his production is only average. His beat on "Guess whos Back"(Jay-Z) is a guilty pleasure though. |

Man you really have to at least download the album in full. I bought it and blasted it on my CD player one night and became hooked the next morning. You can't say you don't like an album if you only heard 3/4 songs, that's why i have to at least try to listen to 50 cent's albums before I make my decision.
On to Kanye's album though, it really is different from mainstream rap today. If you compared it to the Ying Yang Twins, Tony Yayo, any other new release it will sound way different and ahead of its time. Dope beats, dope samples. I love the classics. Even Paul Wall sounded good on Drive Slow. College Dropout is dope too, it's catchier than Late Registration, maybe that's why it was more accepted by mainstream rap fans. I guess it really depends on your tastes in music. Late Registration is dope. College Dropout is a great debut. |
