I think he's hungry too. Didn't love this song to be honest though. Rae lost his appeal to me awhile ago. When he was younger and his first stuff with Wu and OB4CL he was awesome. I think it just felt more raw with his older material and more real, even if it wasnt (with the mafioso theme with Ghostface). I don't know, his new stuff doesn't do it to me. Nas is tough to put into context because he'll never run the billboard charts and doesn't seem real concerned with flashy hooks or appealing to the masses. Yall know I'm a Nas rider but he's a true rhymer and he still blows me away with the way he changes rhyme schemes and his delivery.

After reading Prodigy's My Infamous life (btw one of the best biographies I've ever read) I've sorta gained respect for him because he was the first big rapper out of Queensbridge Projects. Also Prodigy looked up to him for a while too. And if my man P says he like potatoes so do I.

Anyways I've always loved Nas, especially his earlier stuff. I stopped listen to him though after Nastradamahit. He lost me for a few years after that. But I soon regained my liking for him when Hip Hop is Dead came out. That album was sick, some of those amazing tracks were produced by Kanye West, no wonder why I loved it.

My friend your first few posts have been awesome. Prodigy's bio is something I'll have to look into. Nas's early stuff is definitely his greatest, but considering Illmatic is pretty widely regarded as one of the best rap albums ever, I think it's unreasonable to think he could really get much better. I think part of the reason Illmatic is so impressive is because how young he was when he wrote and recorded it (and the producers on that album are unbelievable). And honestly, Nas doesn't get much love but I thought Untitled was pretty good despite people sleeping on it. And Lost Tapes is one of the most under rated releases in rap. I'm pretty excited to see what Nas's new album will be like.

As an artist, you would want to experiment and change around your style a bit instead of being stagnant for a long period of time just because your fan bois that loved your debut album can't understand or embrace the creative direction that you as an artist is heading in.

I completely agree about Illmatic, in my eyes its stands in the top 10 best hip-hop albums ever. I agree that artists usually drop their biggest bomb when they release their first album. The thing is I don’t have high expectations like my girlfriend. I’m not looking for an album to top their first one. But is it so much to ask (now I sound like my gf) that the album at least be the same calibre??? Why is it that pretty much every rapper that breaks out of the underground scene starts to lose their swagger??? The following albums get more and more “mainstream”, losing their appeal and changing their style. I’m pretty sure the answer is cash. But what they don’t understand is that they had the formula right when they started, if its not broken don’t fix it. :confused: Ugggg I could go on and on about countless artists that have gone mainstream and lost their original style.

I felt for a while that Nas was on that boat. Then he dropped Lost Tapes, I agree totally underated. He understood the formula to his success, bring it back to the old school. Less is better. Anyways I’m excited to see what the future holds for Nasty Nas.

In my opinion, the mainstream stuff happens because of the money. There's limited thing to rhyme about, and if you look at a lot of 1st albums, it's gritty because they aren't paid yet. Once rappers get money, it's an easy topic to rap about.

Stillmatic is solid. Rewind is a great song off that album. Whole song is a story in reverse. I also like Got Urself a Gun and One Mic.

The album is sick, One Mic is raw enough to equate to a good album (i was just spinnin it yesterday, so it's fresh in mind). I like it more than Illmatic personally; though the subject matter is limited (3rd degree firing Jay Z up), but the raw emotion and material is just sooo good.

Like Dirty said, Rewind is a great story too, and I love the Intro personally.

Probably old news but I didn't hear about it til surfing for info tonight on the new Nas album... Off Future doing a song with Nas. Should be interesting.

In terms of lyrical content, flow and relevance, the dude is up at the top in terms of all time MC's.
He's switched up his style towards the end of the 90's, but who didn't?

Hip-Hop changed, so did those who made a living from it.

Nas is still the man.
