Nas

Any Nas fans out there? What does everyone think about him? Whats your favorite album of his? Personally, I like "It Was Written" and "Stillmatic" although I am a big fan of a lot of his stuff.

Eltiraaz 02-26-2004 12:08 PM

I think of him as one of the better rappers out there. Im not too familiar with alot of his stuff though. "I Can" was an excellent song though. I like him.

Ante_Up 02-26-2004 02:10 PM

I think that everyone can at least respect Nas. He is one of the greatest. I own all of his albums. This is how i rank his albums:
1. Illmatic- This album is unf*ckwitable
2. It Was Written
3. God's Son
4. Stillmatic
5. Lost Tapes
6. Nastradamous- this album gets very unfairly sh*t on
7. I Am

Very impressive list of albums there. Cant wait for lost tapes 2, and a new full album

Rockafella Skank 02-26-2004 03:11 PM

I'm a fan of early Nas mostly, but some of his new stuff is really good like "One Mic". My favorite albums of his have to be "Illmatric", "It Was Written", and "I Am." Those are all classic albums with classic songs.

JackJeckel 02-26-2004 06:30 PM

I Am and It Was Written are not classics, by a long shot.

Illmatic is Nas's masterpiece, and one of raps best albums.

I don't know why you say that. They're definitely classics. Maybe not as well known or as well thought of, but definitely definitely should be. I don't see agree that Illmatic should get all the praise.

JackJeckel 02-26-2004 07:02 PM

A classic hip hop album is generally defined as an album that had an effect on the overall direction of the genre, and was basically perfect from start to finish

I'm not saying IWW and I Am aren't good albums, in fact I think they're great, but they're not classics. You would have a very hard time finding an educated head who would put them as classics

Rockafella Skank 02-26-2004 07:26 PM

I guess I should say... "classic Nas albums". I didn't mean classic rap albums.

Ante_Up 02-27-2004 01:02 PM

"I Am" is not a classic Nas album. I think its his worst one. On the other hand, It Was Written is definatly a classic Nas album. Not as good as Illmatic though

What??

These are some of the classic songs off that album:

You Won't See Me
Nas Is Like
Small World
Money Is My Bitch
Poppa Was A Player
K-I-SS-I-N-G
Dr. Knockboot

Those in bold are my favorite off "I Am".

Ante_Up 02-27-2004 03:00 PM

^^^Some of them aren't "classics", and your missing NY State of Mind pt. 2, and Favor for a Favor. Still, it is his worst album yet. Listen to his other albums, do your homework, then you will know why i say that it is his worst album yet.

Hahaha. Do my homework? I'm very well versed in hip-hop. Thanks! I don't only make my own, but I've been listening to it for over 10 years now. Adding those two songs helps my point even more than "I Am" is a classic Nas album.

That's exactly how i would have put it.

Has anyone heard "nastradamous" remixed by mf doom? Is it any good? I'm tempeted to get it.

JackJeckel 02-28-2004 09:39 AM

Its decent, but not the best work Doom's put out

Ante_Up 02-28-2004 04:27 PM

"I can" is cool except the children get annoying over time IMO

Illmatic is simply one of the best albums of all time. Songs like N.Y. State of Mind, World Is Yours, Halftime, Memory Lane, Represent, It Ain't Hard to Tell. Man those of some of the best songs ever lyrically.

Illmatic= perfection. "One Love" is my personal fav. But I think I Am is up there with Illmatic.

Up there, but not better :)

I really like Favor for a Favor, Ghetto Prisoners.

God's Son is a great album too. Songs like The Cross, Book Of Rhymes, Mastermind, Thugz Mansion, Revolutionary Warfare are all great tracks.

hookers with machineguns 04-05-2005 10:54 PM

God's Son is a good album, "Last Real Nigga Live" and "Book of Rhymes" is probably my favs, but from top to bottom, really good album. I needa pick up Lost Tapes 2 to complete my collection, couple songs on there I havent heard yet.

Growth and Development 04-06-2005 08:09 AM

In my opinion stillmatic is his best yet. Gods son and Streets desciple werent as good as his older ones but they were allright. One mic is one of the most genius songs i have ever heard. Right now nas is the most talented person in the rap game, but lately he hasnt dropped anything too hot.

hookers with machineguns 04-06-2005 02:45 PM

I didnt like Stillmatic at first, but it grew on me, like Rewind, One Mic, Ether- some of his best sh*t ever.
Streets Disciple was disappointing.

SATCHMO 04-06-2005 03:00 PM

So Street Disciple doesn't even make the list for any of you. Its not his best, but it still deserves mention.

hookers with machineguns 04-06-2005 03:25 PM

^ compared to some of his other records, no. Dont get me wrong, Streets Disciple had a few good cuts, but I wouldnt even put it in the top 3 Nas albums.

I'm more directly refering to those that listed all of his albums except Street Disciple, which hadn't even been mentioned before I brought it up. I just was curious if it was omitted because people thought it was "that bad" or maybe cuz its newer and a lot of folks havent heard it. I wouldnt put it in my top 3 either, but its not horrible.

hookers with machineguns 04-06-2005 04:07 PM

woah. what's really weird is that there's another thread just like this one, where everyone ranked their fav Nas albums in order. It's a more recent thread, so I think everyone considered Street's Disciple somewhere in their lists. It seems like the lists on this thread were posted before SD was released.
BTW, I remember Ante Up really didnt like the fact I rated It Was Written on the low end of my list. No Nas album is terrible, that one just happened to be a least favorite.

SATCHMO 04-06-2005 04:13 PM

Wow, this thread is over a year old!!!!!! That explains everything.

I have been on a "Nas Thing" lately and am really getting into his music.

You're a bit late, jeez.
The reason you have'nt any responses is because we've all known how Dope(if a little bit inconsistant) Nas is.
And we have done since 1994.

bungalow 01-15-2006 01:48 PM

Oh, I understand.
I am only allowed to get into artists when everone else gets into them.
Well, In that case, how about we talk about 50 Cent and The Game. YAH!
That sounds great.
So, what is your favorite Mariah Carey song?

Bitch, just respond to the topic

No what I'm saying is this Topic in particular has been exhausted on every Forum known to man.
I'm not having a go at you, I just found it amusing that's all.

BYATCH!!

EDGE 01-15-2006 01:52 PM

I'd hit it.

But, I like Kanye's music better.

I tempted to flame you, but considering your a sexist pig i'd assume anything i said wouldn't sink in. So i'll keep it simple. Shut up, if your not gonna reply to the topic, don't reply at all.

Nas is pretty sick i must say, Illmatic<333

Ante_Up 01-15-2006 09:37 PM

hahaha, "Nastradamous" is one of your favourtie Nas tracks...that song is awfull.

Anyways, ive always thought that Nas is the best MC of all time, and that Illmatic is the GOAT album. He always comes up with great concept songs too: "I Gave You Power", "One Love", "Rewind", "Fetus"
