Lil B

Garnering enough attention these days to deserve his own thread. All of a sudden he has 9th wonder producing stuff for him. Possible being signed to diddy's labels, and rumors say he has prince helping him on his first album.

Hate on him all you want, this dude is making some interesting moves.

Not good lyrically, terrible with flow. I still haven't heard anything remotely good by him. I think he sucks. Seems to me like he's just hugely self-promotional on the internet and puts out a ton of stuff, so i applaud him some for that. For some reason guys like you and James dick ride this guy and I'm still not sure why. Cool looking black guy with swag and tattoos. Why do I feel like I've seen this recipe before.

Antonio 03-23-2011 04:03 PM

really enjoy his stuff, got tons of respect for his willingness to try different things and while i can't say that i like all of his stuff, he still has some banging songs if you look for it.

really, he someone you either love or hate, but you can't say that he doesn't have ambition. that and he really lives by his idea of being "Based", or being free to express yourself and live life on your own terms. he's not a guy who adheres to images of what MCs should be, and even though that means some questionable song choices/styles, he's still doing it because HE wants to.

some of my favorites from him

EvilChuck 03-23-2011 04:10 PM

I like him. He is a young guy who just has fun making music alot of the time, but also can make songs that have more credibility. People dont usually mention his more thoughtful songs when they talk bad about him and his music, only the 'woo woo swag' type stuff. But the overall message from his music is that we should all just live for ourselves, and do whatever makes us happy.

Honestly, if any of those songs were released by Mos Def/Lupe Fiasco/Nas or whoever else, everyone would be claiming them as great songs for the ages. 9th Wonder said on Twitter when all the 'real hip hop heads' were moaning about him working with Lil B, that he isnt lyrical and whatever, he said 'I dont care how lyrical you are, if you cant deliver well then whats the point' (or something along those lines). It seems that some fans cant see what he is doing, but alot of other rappers can. He's got Tyler, The Creator repping him, he's got Wiz Khalifa repping him, he's got guys giving him their girlfriends!

I posted some of the verse by Jean which i thought explained it somewhat. He's just part of this crazy weird counter culture that's elevating in rap. He looks like an idiot, intentionally, i don't know where you get the cool from. His rhyming is usually ironic, self-deprecating one moment, then super egotistic the next. It's all scatterbrained.

I've listened to so much god awful hip hop, and lil b is too weird to be grouped in with those guys. He's too openly gay and feminine. His influence is the rapid pace and amount of content on the internet.

His rapping isn't supposed to be critiqued, it's just weird pseudo-satirical internet meme humor, the more people hate it, the stronger it makes his fanbase. Lil B has enough good lines here and there where I'm sure if he wanted to he could write a coherent verse, pretty much anybody can, it's just that he's too ****ing weird.

I gotta admit though, the amount of focus on spending on this dude could probably go to like, a real, talented musician, but ****it.

James 03-23-2011 04:44 PM

I like him, he's so dedicated.

Pheens 03-25-2011 11:52 AM

Not Lil B... i don't understand. The dis to Budden was just odd.

Such a crock of shit. If Nas or Mos Def put this garbage out, all of their fans would be pissed and the non-fans and casual listeners wouldn't even bother giving it a second listen. Tyler reps a lot of people and Wiz is starting to rival Wayne for most over rated rapper on the planet. For me there's generally two types of rap. Stuff that's lyrical and stuff that's party music. And Lil B isn't either. He's just random and terrible lyrics with no creativity with rhyme schemes and no flow at all.

Like there's guys who make party raps I like. That's their style, it's something I can get behind even though I don't think it's even close to the talent level of someone like Nas or Mos Def or Big L or something like that. Funny punchlines with sexual undertones over a party beat is all it really is and I can party and drink to that. I don't wanna go to a party and hear Illmatic. But Lil B just does nothing for me. Tatted up black guy with swag. Hmm where have I seen this before?? There's just zero quality to anything he has done that I can enjoy and it's like everyone else is trying to search for something so they can like him. Oh man, he's so dedicated! He's so gay and funny!!! Like there's never been another rapper that has ever been funny or has ever been dedicated. It's just another wannabe rapper with no talent who is now making it big because of the retards of places like 4chan and the rest of the world who wants to be able to jerk off their own ego once lil b gets bigger and they can tell all their friends "oh man i knew of based god so long ago! I'm so cool!"

That line was so good you had to repeat it twice?

Of course there has been dedicated rappers, name me another openly gay one.

As for the jerking off of ones ego, that can be said of any ****ing up and coming artist.

Your still judging Lil B on artistic merit. Don't, he's obviously not a talented artist, however i do think he's capable of putting out more coherent or digestible matireal.

That being said, he's a awesome icon. Ol dirty bastard wasn't a good rapper at all, but it was his SWAG and charisma and off-beat humor that made him a figure in rap music. Lil B is similar to that.

I honestly think he's a really funny dude. When he says **** like "real complex rap!" after rhyming "im a base boy, i Amen, destroy" which makes no ****ing sense, it's obvious he's joking. It's off beat humor, if you don't like it thats normal, but many people can appreciate, it's at least something different.

exactly!

and instead of having Soulja Boy's great production

Lil B gets production from other people

not that those others aren't better than Soulja Boy's production.

They are way better but I'm just saying.

Recording the sounds of my beer shits would be new and different too, but it doesn't translate into being good. I feel like so many people love jumping on a bandwagon while there are still seats left and it's picking up steam. Lil B is gonna be somewhat big, I've already seen him on MTV and stuff several times. Because despite having zero talent whatsoever, it's something a lot of people can cling to and make money off of. And yes I am basing things off of artisitc ability and talent, I don't like hearing guys rap that very obviously have no skills. For comedy purposes I'd rather hear someone like Wayne with funny and clever punchlines than some guy like Lil B who records a video for a new terrible song everyday. Even if there was a good song in there somewhere, I'd have to wade through 10 tons of dogshit to find it and it wouldn't even be worth it.

I don't think he's openly gay anyways, he just makes some gay references. Must have read the Lady Gaga success handbook on how to make gay references and start controversy. ODB was a different type of person. He was famous because he was lucky enough to be surrounded by amazingly talented rappers. He was the most raw person to ever hit the microphone. Lil B isn't raw, he just spits this stupid **** on a daily basis and people like you love it. If Lil B came out with a good song I'd applaud him but based on his track record I dont see that happening ever. The "off beat humor" isn't even funny and I don't know how anyone could still want to give it a listen after the first 10 songs where he says the same exact type of stuff. He knows he's not talented and makes fun of himself for it, and people think he's good because of how bad he is. To each their own obviously a lot of people like Lil B but it's one of the few things in music that I can't understand whatsoever.

Please, the lady gaga handbook? ODB the rawest to hit the mic? Why because he rapped about diareeah and period blood?

Anyway, lil b has so many video's because he makes a terrible version of every rap trope there is man.

Here you have you pack back rap parody:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-IYS...57C675EB8BB0A9

Here you have his version of the new stoner rap (wiz, mac miller, etc)

Here you have his awsomely awful take on wacka flocka lex luger ****:

Here you have typical uplifting, you can make it out of the ghetto if you try, type ****:

Any new cliche in rap lil b bites it, and puts his own terrible spin on it. I know you feel good about yourself for not liking lil b, because your not looking at the joke dude, thats the only way i can explain it to you.

Hes a weird ass comedian first, self promoter 2nd, and some terrible musician 3rd. Saying he's terrible is exactly right, thats the whole point of his act.

Jester 03-31-2011 09:15 PM

He's incredibly interesting, that's for sure. (Infinitely more interesting than the people bitching that he sucks.) That's about all I can say at the moment.

If you don't think ODB was raw and you think he was putting on an act with the way he acted, you're probably retarded. And I know what Lil B does. I know he has so many videos because he doesn't have any skill and doesn't do much in his songs. I understand the "joke" (I use the term loosely since it's not very funny) but it'd be one things if he was making fun of other rappers or new trends or whatever and he, himself, actually had talent. But that's not the case. So... a rapper with no talent who makes fun of other rappers is basically what we got here? Let's just sum this up by saying you like terrible music and I don't.

Sparky 03-31-2011 10:52 PM

Why does he have to be as equally "talented" as other musicians to poke fun at them?

Did every sports commentator have to be athletic? Or any critique? It's a weird standard.

I don't know how you got the impression i thought ODB was putting on an act, that dude robbed a liquor store on camera.

All i'm saying is weird characters like Lil B have plenty of room in the genre, and might have more positive influence then would seem.

If lil b was just a worse version of soulja boi why would producers like 9th wonder be drawn to him? or fellow cult humorists like andy milonakis? Those dudes haven't given fiftytyson love, or mtvriffraff, trust me they'res plenty of people who appear to be like lil b.

9th wonder is in the industry, and talented, and so by your logic that puts him in a good position to judge, as he, as well as many artists, many outside of hip hop, have openly supported lil b.

Editing and shooting a new video everyday takes work. He actually picks some pretty interesting locales, and edits them better then half the video's official rappers have of themselves at the strip club or whatever.

Well the way I view it is sports announcers or movie critics are in their own business. They aren't competing with the players or actors or whatever. Lil B is a rapper who is making fun of other rappers, but can't even rap himself. It's like a high school bench-warmer posting videos everyday dissing LeBron James.

His videos are pretty good sometimes, I'll say that. And as for guys working with him, it's cause they see him on the rise and about to be more popular to the general public and everyone is gonna make a good dollar off it. It's a shame 9th wonder wastes beats on him, but guarantee he is getting PAID. I just don't think the "joke" is that funny, or funny enough to warrant him being so popular. It's just a guy with no talent who makes fun of other guys with no talent and I don't see the appeal to be honest.

The appeal is everything matious just said up there...people have this inflated opinion that he's something that he is definitely NOT.

There are people that just like him because the majority of the public just loves stupid shit period. Then there are the others like Matious that are defending him and trying to blow him up to be something that he isn't and reading way too deep into the stupid things that he raps about on the surface. At the end of the day, he's just horrible and people think he's "interesting" because he's doing something that they haven't seen in a bit.

Dirty 03-31-2011 11:24 PM

Before even seeing your post I was gonna edit mine, but I'll just say now that I should've said that I see the appeal to others, but it is not appealing to myself.

Okay. I'm going to break down all the funny things going down in this video.

1.) the beat, so serious and wanna be-avant garde,

2.) The mixtape is called illusions of grandeur which he pronounces incorrectly.

3.) "I was a robber turned positive"

4.) "one bottle of alchohol, 2 people with bad thoughts"

5.) Then he says, "if you aint a robber your not going to understand this"

Come on, am i just going crazy...nobody else finds this funny? Like, you guys make it sound like im really trying to find stuff i like about this guy. But everything he says is just funny, some general vague statement, it's like some new form of sarcasm.

Also, more hater ammo, he's called his next album 'I'm Gay'. I swear he does some of these things to piss of his haters more than he does it for himself.
