here's a list of albums i think are leagues ahead of Death Grips:

1. Nicki Minaj "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded"
2. Waka Flocka "Flockaveli"
3. Justin Bieber "M World 2.0"
4. Lil Wayne "Rebirth"
5. Flo Rida "Only One Rida"
6. Every Pitbull album
7. every Lady Gaga album
8. any collection of songs that includes "Fly Like A G6"
9. The New Boyz
10. Gucci Gucci Louie Louie Fendi Fendi Prada

Ya know, if this album made you go "WTF is wrong with this world?!" then you should like it because that's pretty much what MC Ride is rapping about. =P

If deleted spammer was saying that Death Grips is bad .. I can't help but agree. I've listened and Death Grips don't grip me.

Experimental? What exactly is the experiment? This is just regular hip-hop that hasn't been done very well. Beats, rhymes, etc. All hip-hop is made this way. Death Grips has done the usual but in poor form.

Maybe not completely but this music IS a sonic mess. It's not experimental nor is it enjoyable.

Sparky 06-06-2012 08:19 PM

I enjoy the noises in this song, especially a minute in. Like a couple other tracks here an there. I think i like this one because its catchy

I think it would be funny to have mark e smith over these beats. It would be the same muddled, incoherent wordplay but not intentionally

Goofle 06-06-2012 08:31 PM

I would explode if they did a collab with Mark E. Smith.

haha, I hope Mark E. Smith is reading this then - he loves making easy money from other musician's fan caches.

Those noises are just found samples like all hip-hop producers use.
Perhaps enjoyable but definitely not experimental.

Goofle 06-07-2012 03:41 AM

We get it, you aren't a huge Death Grips fan.

Engine 06-07-2012 04:04 AM

Glad I've been clear.
Actually I don't hate them and I apologize if my double-post makes it seem that way - I only did that b/c I didn't feel like trying to go back and edit and double-quote and all that after I saw the 2nd post I wanted to respond to.

True I don't like them but, of course, go ahead and have fun with your underground experimental hip-hop. Death Grips just isn't my thing.

Goofle 06-07-2012 04:55 AM

I forgive you for the quite in your signature. Even if it's an awful hook.

You can say whatever you want but it's neither. It's a poorly made made video featuring a boring song. It's success will depend on how easily it convinces mindless fans to consider whether it's mental or genius. What an embarrassingly ridiculous crock of shit this is.

I take that as an offense, considering I'm a fan and therefor mindless, apparently. Thank you so much.

Oh but in that case I hope you can deal with it when I tell you that what you were telling was pretty much false unless one should somehow find your opinion to instantly be the truth. Now please let us mindless beings be and go bother yourself with whatever you do like, seems like a more useful thing to do to me.

Goofle 07-01-2012 06:02 AM

Engine, wipe your mouth, you're dribbling all over this thread.

If you don't like it, fine, get on with your life. Don't start accusing their fans of being mindless just because they are very popular in the underground scene.

Personally, I still think this album is genius.

I never asked anyone to do anything and just to be clear - I absolutely don't consider my opinion to be the capital-T truth. All I'm saying is that this Death Grips song and video suck. Like really badly.
Now, unless you have further need of my wisdom: Go play and have fun.

edit: You too Goofy, get on up on this bullshit. And like I said to the other one, have fun.

You made it sound like it was the absolute truth but OK. =/

Blarobbarg 07-01-2012 08:13 AM

Engine, you sound like the cranky old man down the street waving his cane at the kids playing their music from their cars at loud volumes.

"It's just noise! It's all just noise! Dadgummit! Get offa my lawn you damn kids!"

You're entitled to your opinion, but if all you're doing is repeatedly saying, "This sucks and you probably suck for listening to it," then your opinion can stay out of the thread. You want people to have fun? Leave them here, so they can have fun, without your disapproving glances over their shoulders.

And I'm not a huge fan either, by the way. I enjoy listening every once in awhile, and for the record, I think that the way MC Ride is creating this manic hobo character is brilliant.

Engine 07-01-2012 09:41 AM

So I'm not supposed to mention a counterpoint to the love here and say that this rapper is not brilliant in the least?
Shit, I already told the fans to go have fun with it. I hope they do. They obviously already are.

As for my perceived personal profile -- Imagine how many inane posts I might have under my name if I stepped into every thread and said something like "I don't like this, n'yah!" Mine would rival Il Duce's number of inane posts (just to cite an obvious example of a poster who makes far too many pointless posts) because I hate so much of the music that people go on about here in general. Bad music doesn't offend me and I usually don't wave my walking stick at it.

There's just something about this Death Grips thing that bothers more than normal bad music does. I suppose it's that I particularly want to voice my opinion against it, not just because I don't like it but because it makes me ashamed of hip-hop (one of my favorite music styles) when people are hyping this stuff in the way that they are (like "you just don't understand the underground scene" etc.)

I'm stopping here before people start flying off the handle or falling asleep but my point is that, to me, this is NOT GOOD hip-hop even if the rapper looks all freaky. His flow is not distinct or good. The production is basically garbage but the rapper has a weird beard and tattoos so he grabs a lot of fascination. It's bull****. Death Grips is bad hip-hop and I don't care who likes them or doesn't. I'm not calling their fans names and I apologize if that's what I've done.

This is my last word on the topic:

Enjoy Death Grips during its short-lived popularity. Talk to me about them in a year if anybody still cares and I'd love to re-discuss them. If they make any good albums, I'll want to discuss them because I'm a fan of offbeat hip-hop so long as it's good. Until then, stay off of my lawn because I'm not your shepherd. As of today they're no good. Have fun with this fad, rap fans, and I mean that sincerely.

The beloved Death Grips thread is now safe from my comments. I won't chime in again.

Howard the Duck 07-01-2012 10:05 AM

they're like the battles of tpappa

sorry i'm stoned on sleeping meds

Somebody fetch a mop to clean up Engine's dribble.

Violent & Funky 07-01-2012 11:03 AM

I'm not a massive fan, but when I'm in the mood I think they're purty cool. Definitely something unique that I've never heard before...

Sparky 07-01-2012 11:28 AM

Epic. Pics or it didn't happen.

14232949 08-21-2012 03:45 PM

anyone perplexed as to why the band's undertaking two studio albums in the same year.
Yes, I'm aware of the label switch but surely it's asking too much for another album the quality of The Money Store this early.
Heard they were mixing it in China so possible Asian influences?

LoathsomePete 08-21-2012 03:52 PM

I'm more worried about their new album being more of a B-sides compilation of stuff that was left on the cutting floor during the production of The Money Store. I'm guessing Epic is hoping to capitalize on the band's sudden fame as quickly as possible, or maybe these guys are just really that bursting with ideas. In either case there's not a lot more hip hop coming out this year that I'm into so I'll take another Death Grips album.

14232949 08-21-2012 04:22 PM

It's definitely plausible that's a best of the rest album, I sure hope not though.
I'd rather it take longer and be a premium steak rather than bacon fat.
Although I'm sure people questioned last year whether or not The Weeknd could drop 3 records in one year and them all of them good. He managed it so it can be done.

Goofle 08-21-2012 04:44 PM

Most of his material is average at best.

Howard the Duck 08-21-2012 08:10 PM

recently got "Exmilitary"

didn't like the production at all - it's all rather muddy

Frownland 09-10-2012 12:16 PM

Adult Swim's Excellent Singles series released an unreleased Money Store track called "@DEATHGRIPZ". I don't think that it's too shabby, it's definitely not as abrasive as their other work is. I'm sure that this will suffice to hold over fans until No Love comes out.

This sucks even more than their non-Cartoon Network stuff. Congrats to them for figuring out how to water down and market their already boring music.
I hope all of this Death Grips shit goes away soon. No Love.

Goofle 09-11-2012 05:58 AM

Yeah, trash track.

Thom Yorke 09-11-2012 08:08 AM

Wow, not feeling that track at all. I guess it's catchy to some degree, but it's pretty bad and bland overall.

Little bit worried as they've progressively mellowed out from Exmilitary to The Money Store to this track (small sample size, I know). I thought they reached a perfect medium with The Money Store, so hopefully they go more off that template in the future.

Gucci Little Piggy 09-11-2012 09:05 AM

Yea, this definitely ain't AAA-material, I'd say it's pretty ok but they shouldn't do this tuned-down thing too often, I love their music because it's noisey and aggressive as fuck, so I hope No Love won't be too much of this kinda stuff. Or at least they should do some better sampling.

Blarobbarg 09-11-2012 09:08 AM

Yeah, I really didn't like that track, at all. There's a reason they left it off of Money Store.

I hope No Love is a return to form.

Janszoon 09-11-2012 09:21 AM

I didn't mind that track. My mind wasn't blown by it or anything, but I thought it was okay.
