Just on a scan I think it’s likely the first good record he’s ever made.

Haven’t listened either but digging the hate

It's fucking incredible. 23 minutes of unadulterated Ye. It's pretty raw stuff.

That's enough for me. I'll give it a shot.

Goofle 06-01-2018 06:55 PM

Like it a lot.

Key 06-01-2018 07:43 PM

Listening now. Will report later.

"I Thought About Killing You"

Feels like it’s influenced by Earl. Stripped down. Addresses the connection between suicidal tendencies and murder.

Yikes

Not as interesting sonically but like the former cool lyrics. References ego death on DMT. Again, at least lyrically brings Earl to mind.

All Mine

Future trap influenced sound. Hypnotic beat. Equates focus on sex with enlightenment.

Wouldn't Leave

Again Future trap. Rap braggadocio. George Jetson to George Jefferson- lol nice
The attempt at soulfulness fail

No Mistakes

Ugly boring pop song that he somehow manages to hang his hat on. Jay-Z wannabe failure track. The bell biv devoe background singing is awful.

Ghost Town

Please go back to ripping off Earl and Future. Awful.

Violent Crimes

Calls on Tupac sentimentality that didn’t even work when when Tupac did it.

Well, there was hope for a minute. Starts strong. Gets worse. Entirely unoriginal.

Key 06-02-2018 01:27 PM

^I got halfway and stopped listening. It's not bad. Just really bland.

So you only listened to 10 minutes of it? Christ man you couldn't of listened to another 10 minutes of it?

Cuthbert 06-02-2018 01:51 PM

Waxahatchee's last album > ye

I thought that too at first but then I thought **** it it’s not like he owes Kanye 23 minutes

when I scan the new releases on Spotify some of them only get about five seconds

I doubt you’re combing through the releases in my free jazz thread

Time is limited

 We're not listening to Swan's last 3 albums back to back. So yes time may be limited but I think we owe ourselves a 22 minute rap album. It's pretty good. And his next project with Cudi in a few days will hopefully make it a somewhat full project.

Lucem Ferre 06-02-2018 02:53 PM

I like a lot of it, but it feels unfinished and rushed out.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 06-02-2018 03:06 PM

it’s alright, nothing too great. after TLOP ive just come to accept we experienced peak Ye when he releases Yeezus and for some reason he doesn’t want to continue in that direction.

i feel like every song on his last few projects is him trying to redeem or explain himself and it just gets tedious at some point. full crazy ego driven kanye is what we need though.

Cuthbert 06-02-2018 03:20 PM

He peaked with his first single.

I still remember when I first heard Through The Wire, on MTV Base in 2003.

It was emotional.

nah

old school kanye west was quite good but it wasn’t really anything unique outside of him having a very good ear for sampling. he came into his own on MBDTF and Yeezus.

Justthefacts 06-02-2018 03:39 PM

I saw Kanye in concert in 2014 during the time he was wearing that mask with jewels on it and shit. Can anyone else say that?

His first single is actually the best thing he's done though.

Kanye's first two records are classic, anyone who doesn't know that is retarded. But I agree MBDTF and Yeezus are groundbreaking. Especially MBDTF.

Cuthbert 06-02-2018 03:46 PM

Neither of them are ground-breaking especially MBDTF.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 06-02-2018 03:53 PM

i wouldn’t use the term ground breaking but for a rapper of his stature to release two albums like that it was certainly unique and creative.

kibbeh 06-02-2018 04:02 PM

yeezus > MBDTF

Who broke that ground first?

New record is ass. I really tried to give it a fair shot too. The only thing I liked is the hook on I Thought About Killing You because it cracked me up. The production didn't stand out as anything interesting. The new Pusha T is album is way better.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 06-02-2018 05:17 PM

i was waiting for somebody to mention the new push album. really dug it. his last couple of releases have been really solid but this one was the one.

Blank. 06-02-2018 05:24 PM

He canceled the tour right before our stop.

So apparently Kanye has kept up his promise to release his duo album tonite with Kid Cudi. I'm not a fan of Kid Cudi minus a few songs he's done in the past with Kanye. But it's dropping tonight. I'm nervous. Cudi on Kanye's new record was awful. His singing is terrible.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 06-07-2018 01:24 PM

yeah kid cudi sucks

Really? I always figured you a Cudi fan?

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 06-07-2018 01:28 PM

nah he’s super cringy. the whole “im sad” shtick doesn’t excuse horrible lyrics. i’ll let some of his older stuff pass just cause it’s catchy but i’m far from being a fan. his production is okay at times, but his ambition usually leads to him creating some totally all over the place mess.

He's always been all over the place. I remember when "Day N Night" came out when I was in middle school and every poseur loved it. What the fuck is Kid Cudi though? I've never understood. He's this enigma that's somehow gotten worse since that one hit.

I **** with Kids See Ghosts. Dope production and it goes down well. Reborn and Cudi Montage are lame as **** though. 3/5 as an album but Fire and 4th Dimension are 4/5.

Those are my two favorite songs from the album.
