RiFF RaFF

probably my favorite rapper at the moment

Sparky 05-12-2012 11:06 PM

jester you already know this dude is wack

Phantom Limb 05-13-2012 12:45 AM

I'm not feeling this dude. Sorry man. :(

Scarlett O'Hara 05-13-2012 01:27 AM

What I don't get is why he is wearing goggles. Dude needs to rap about chemistry before I'll take him seriously.

Sparky 05-13-2012 01:08 PM

way, way too little for me to handle.

I may not know the intangibles of what he's going to do next, but i can predict it's going to be equally wack.

Phantom Limb 05-13-2012 01:28 PM

I really don't like that Action Bronson hangs out with this dude.

Goofle 05-13-2012 02:05 PM

Not a huge Action Bronson fan to be honest, but you are right, pretty disheartening to see him on that track.

nope.. Riff Raff's somewhere between Kool Keith and Lil B but is his own creation..

hip hop isn't dead, but hip hop fans are getting boring.

RiFF RaFF is dope, why do you consider him whack?

To say he killed him is giving him too much credit, all he did was rap faster. That definitely wasn't the best AB verse, but everything else by him is leagues better than anything I've heard from Riff Raff. This dude is soooooo corny man, the MTV and BET tattoos should be a dead give away.

I can see negative aspects of both in his fake persona sure.

So arbitrary. Hip Hop fans are more accepting now than ever, I'm fairly certain hip hop fans wouldn't let someone like Riff Raff have a career two decades ago.

This whole "it's okay to make incredibly stupid rap as long as you are self-aware and joking" thing needs to end with lil b. Riff Raff is not a good rapper, he's a dude who's thirsty for an entertainment career, his rap is above awful because he has spent so much time practicing. It's the equivalent of that retarded bench player on that basketball team who came in and shot a bunch of three's at the end of one game. Yeah he can shoot the three some times but he's still retarded.

he didn't "just rap faster".. his alliteration smacked the piss out of Bronson, the texture of that delivery was ill. and his lyrics were cooler.. plus, the way he went out was more stylish than Bronson's ever been in his life. "cause a storm in sunny weather, in sunny weather, in sunny weather... hopin' that my days get hopin' hopin' days get days get better" was delivered with perfection

Bronson always raps the same and his character gets old as hell.. sounds like Ghostface with a less relentless flow and he raps about exotic women and food.. and most of the production he gets on blows

and jfc @ "dude has MTV and BET tattoos, obviously his music sucks." a white dude with BET tattoos? only Riff Raff can pull that off.. "they say riff raff just actin' black, he wildin' on 'em... oh i get it, you just mad cause i'm stylin' on em..."

Riff Raff knows what he's doing.. you guys are too caught up in how he looks.

Riff Raff >>> snobby intellectual rap.. he's actually entertaining as hell

there's a certain truth to that, but not totally, i'm talking about the "die-hard" hip hop heads.. the people who post comments on underground hip hop youtube videos saying "this is real hip hop not like Lil Wayne" and "why doesn't this have more views?! smh"

people forget how nerdy and silly classic hip hop could be.. and how rap started off as fun party music for entertainment..

Riff Raff's not nearly as stupid as you think.. dude often says some seriously creative, outlandish shit. you people act like absurdity isn't interesting or amusing.. or, it can be if it either 1. already has respect or 2. comes off as "intellectual"

yeah, Riff Raff isn't trying to paint a goddamn world like Aesop Rock.. but his music is a lot more fun than Aesop Rock's, and there's a time and place for everything.

as far as Riff Raff being bad at rapping? yeah right.. he's mad versatile in his flows, he's got styles for days, and his cadence is always on point. plus, he actually has real presence

you don't know how long he's been practicing or whatever.. and saying "yeah he practiced for a long time he sucks" is just silly

also, what the hell does a retarded athlete have to do with music.. that's such a flawed analogy it's not even funny. you're saying that if a retard makes good music, it doesn't matter because at the end of the day he's still a retard? it's about the end product.. you're sounding like those people who are like "i don't care how good your beats are, if you make them using software and not an MPC, that's whack"

Would you be willing to provide 5 more examples of Riff Raff's perfected delivery? I'm just curious.

Bronson gets fairly introspective. The fact that he can be compared to ghost face, even in the sense of imitating, makes him remarkably better than riff raff.

Quote:

I don't doubt it, notice how I used the words "self aware" to describe his style earlier. I just still believe it's super awful.

Nobody is comparing him to snobby intellectual rap, he is still awful even compared to other awful rap.

Digital Underground was silly but still way better musically than this bro.

Nobody is saying this. I like lil b, odd future, spaceghostpurrp.

Why do you keep making these comparisons? Riff Raff is bad compared to his contemporaries (lil debbie, lil b the bay area scene in general)
Quote:

This is why i'm hoping you'll give some more examples of his always-on-point cadence.

I guess monkeys with typewriters would have been a better analogy. I'm saying just because he has an occasional DECENT verse doesn't mean he's actually good. I mean if you just keep rapping without reason all day your going to occasionally get lucky. Just how the kid practiced his 3 ball to perfection doesn't mean he can actually play basketball.

Riff Raff has no flow whatsoever, his rhymes sound like a dyslexic person reading nonsensical rap lyrics in his head. I'll give you that it's entertaining, but his cadence, his voice, his subject matter, and his entire persona is just a poor mimicry of what southern rappers and gangster rappers pioneered over a decade ago. The only reason he does what he does is because he was brought up to think it's "cool" and will make you rich. He has no talent, and the music he makes is near unlistenable.

Jester 05-13-2012 10:36 PM

listen to Larry Bird and tell me that he's not riding the beat.. listen to Jose Canseco and tell me that he's not riding the beat.. go listen to Bird on a Wire and say there's no rhythm in that flow.. you're tripping

and his rhymes sound like "a dyslexic person reading nonsensical rap lyrics in his head"? i don't even know what to say to that.. you obviously listened to like 3 tracks only one time, didn't like his image, maybe his voice, maybe thought "wow this is one of those 'swag' rappers, obviously this is dumb."

if you listened to him more you'd see the consistencies in his subject matter.. dude has character and it's interesting to enter the bizarre mind of Riff Raff. like i said, he's somewhere between Kool Keith's absurdity and Lil B's silly swag, and it's a dope blend. and if you actually listened to it without thinking "god this guy looks and acts annoying in my opinion" you'd hear that he has some serious rhythm and expresses it in a lot of different ways..

if you can't see the fun in Riff Raff, you guys are just taking it way too seriously, on some "hey! this isn't providing me with profound insights! this isn't thought provoking rap about life!"

like i said, there's a time and place for everything.. there's a time to eat your wheaties but it's okay to have a slice of pizza and a soda once in a while.

variety is the spice of life, fellow knuckleheads

Sparky 05-13-2012 10:41 PM

Here dude, let me try to exemplify what im saying.
Kool A.D. raps absolute non-sense for about 3 minutes. Thematically it's about as absent of anything like Riff Raff, but still because he can actually rap and flow it's engaging to listen to. Riff Raff doesn't have that ability.

Jester 05-13-2012 10:55 PM

Riff Raff occupies a completely different realm of rap, dude.. there's a huge difference between someone who's just rapping to rhyme and someone who's rapping about silly things. Riff Raff's not just kicking rhymes that say nothing and just rhyme, it's not just a series of nonsensical rhymes, he actually has punchlines and imagery..

Riff Raff has a better sense of humor than all of you guys put together..

but to Sparky, you wanna see absolute nonsense? did you guys see that debate between Dirt Nasty and Riff Raff?

Bill Brasky doin' things with the English language that i can't even wrap my head around.. it's mad amusing

Jester 05-13-2012 10:58 PM

not as good as Timmy O'Toole, but gotta show love to Jody Highroller..

Riff Raff da gawd

he's so interesting in his videos and his music.. that's why James Franco's gonna play a character based on Riff Raff in a movie directed by Harmony fucking Korine.. that's the dude right there. and he wanted Riff Raff, but Riff Raff said he couldn't fit it into his schedule, so James Franco took it up.

the more you dig through hit shit the more fun you're gonna have with it..

Engine 05-13-2012 11:07 PM

Somehow watching that video + learning that James Franco is going to play a character based on the guy in a movie directed by Harmony Korine is not selling me on the idea that his music is worth anything.

Jester 05-13-2012 11:08 PM

and did any of you guys listen to Time and watch the video? the video is a trip.. and you guys act like he's just being generic and trashy?

that first verse is dope and unexpectedly heartfelt from Riff Raff..

Quote:

sometimes i feel
feel like my time has past
like i'm an hourglass
and the sand is moving fast
in this life i live
my dad is my best friend
but it seems like i never call him unless i need some money...
ain't that something?
the people all around me
i mean the ones that i do have
it's like they're here today, but they'll probably be gone tomorrow...
when it's rainin' hard and
my car breaks down
i've got no one to call on
(except triple a)
second verse is just as good

that guy goes from writing a song like that with a slow, singy flow that fits his twangy southern accent while making good use of echoing vocals to straight ripping the mic on Bird on a Wire over lush, spacious horns, to swag rap over the slush-rubber bounce of Brain Freeze to a straight up hip hop joint on Larry Bird.. rapping in different styles on all of them but always on point, with original rhymes and sometimes funny, sometimes absurd, sometimes just stylish lyrics.. and you guys write him off because he has a BET tattoo.. weak.

Timmy O'Toole video > Jody Highroller video

and it's just a commentary on people with artistic credibility seeing that Riff Raff's an interesting character

i don't know why you guys can't find the amusement in someone's weird ass head trip..

Dude you gotta try to not be so infatuated with this guy. They make up BS headlines like this all the time for hype, remember when lil b was doing an album with Jay Electronica?

Quote:

Franco says his Spring Breakers character is not based on Riff Raff, and that Harmony Korine never offered Riff Raff a role in the film. He tells GQ:

None of that’s true. I’ll tell you why he could have never been offered the role. Harmony (Korine, the movie’s writer and director) and I were talking about doing a movie together before Spring Breakers was even conceived. I had been a fan of his work and he wanted to do something and I said, “I’ll do anything with you.” We started discussing ideas and one day he sent me a treatment, which he said he’s never done before, just to run it by me…And then he wrote the script. So there’s no chance Riff Raff could have been offered the role.

like i've said.. if you dig through it more that amusement will blow up. especially when you start catching the consistencies in the subject matter of his lyrics.. he's not aimless like people are making him out to be.

If he stars in a sketch comedy show or something I'll probably watch it gleefully but his rap thing is just not doing it for me.

okay, fair enough, hadn't seen the updated version of the article, but Franco still goes on to say that they did watch Riff Raff videos as inspiration while filming, and Franco's character looks a lot like Riff Raff, but i guess they took more influence from local rapper names Dangerous

i don't mind being wrong about that, and i don't think it takes anything away from Riff Raff, just me being wrong in those guys liking him enough for a movie role. oh well.

but "dude you gotta try to not be so infatuated with this guy."

what the hell? i enjoy it.. that's kind of a rude thing to say to someone about something they like.

i'm seriously hoping that's going to happen

Timmy O'Toole was great all the way through, Bill Brasky is pretty hilarious in his absurd fuckery of the english language, and Jody Highroller's upper class grievances were great but the video was a bit spotty with its hit and miss humor.. but it was also clearly improvised

oh, he was on that MTV show From G's to Gents, but i've never seen it.. i guess the premise was, well, the title sums it up. but they didn't keep Riff Raff on there

can't find the episode of it, just chopped up clips on youtube

Engine 05-13-2012 11:31 PM

The guy's funny - I'll give him that. His stuff reminds me of this..

Jester 05-13-2012 11:32 PM

i used to think Riff Raff was stupid but kind of amusing.. the more i dug through his videos and listened to his shit the more it grew on me and i saw what was dope about it

but you guys are too lazy for that

Jester 05-13-2012 11:33 PM

another thing i find odd

i post a lot of hip hop on here that you cats would probably like.. but my most popular thread is gonna be this Riff Raff one, because people have more fun saying what they don't like than saying "hey, that's pretty dope"

but i like to debate why i like something anyway, so it's fun
