To get back to the subject of the thread for a moment, I'll say this: my brother is a fan of Mackelmore so I've heard a bunch of his stuff. It's definitely not anything I'd personally run out and buy but he's also not nearly as bad as some in this thread are making him out to be. The song in the OP is pretty catchy at least. I think the problem here is that his style is somewhat old-school and not in a retro hipster way (he even *gasp* sounds a little like Everlast) so he's saddled with being seen as uncool. Poor guy.

I understand the guy isn't Tupac, for godsakes but how some people don't enjoy the beats and the tongue-in-cheek humor - its beyond me. |

Thats what I meant. I actually want to punch Art Alezachis or whatever the hell his name is right in his smug, whiny face.

I like the beat on Thrift Shop though.

^ me too. About the only redeeming quality the song has going for it.

I like the horn and I like the way he says "this is fucking awesome."

the heist album is just incredible. really broke down many controversial topics in rap.
the fact they did it independently. its impressive. |
Notice how the white 16 year old girl says this is the only rap song she likes.

You found someone you think is universally disliked and used them to prove your point. But your point sucks. You should know that you sound like every other affected hipster hanging out pretending to like "talented" music because you're "intelligent." It says to me you use music poorly. You're one-dimensional. And specifically to hip-hop, you're just as bad as any 16 year old making that statment - you both think there is a "right way" to do hip hop and it gives away a gross and fundamentally misinformed position on music. People who really love music find something worthwhile in every style out there unless it lacks effort. But when someone makes music they like and puts their heart into it, theres never a completely bad offering. This thread has been great for me because it continues to show how Internet-Suburban the site is. Do yourself a favor PL and listen to things outside of your comfort zone. You'll appreciate it someday. And thats what this site is for anyway. Edit: Holy Christ, that kid in the orange and black sweater IS Musicbanter. We finally have a ****ing mascot. |
My comfort zone is music that doesn't suck :pimp:

I agree about the sig.
if your going to use it anyway tho you should edit macklemores name on to it lol |

As for Fred - At least someone is trying to bring the boards to a higher level of discussion (thats me) rather than perpetuate a troll stereotype that only serves to further the "lawls that band sucks" mentality (that'd be you). |
Ha! You guys are too much. Did you two grow up together or something? Ripped from the same womb?
Let's start with the fact that you're basing your little retort (which answers absolutely none of what I actually directed at you) on one statement which has context; do you have any clue what that context may be? I doubt it. Please, try to at least keep up with the history of debate around here before you spit them out in a haste to avoid a question. Btw, Does this sound familiar to you?: Quote:
And then actually answer my question. Don't puss out like some of the more unfortunate members around here seem to have made a habit of. |

Hey I'll be honest and non confrontational for a second (even though... never mind), Macklemore actually has pretty nice flow. And the beat is Pharell-ish (already said I liked it though).
|
oh sorry i trashed that post after i realized which one you were talking about.
heres the beat from pharrel i drew comparison to in my head edit as well as clipse record |
Ooo dat beat nastyyy. Definitely a much bigger budget type sound, that kinda grand shit you hear on post-00's Wu Tang, East Coast stuff (even though Pharell's more associated with more southern stuff). It's great stuff for boxers and boxing games.
Yeah I remember his Clipse ties, I haven't listened to them as much as I should or have wanted to. "Popeyes" had a murderous beat though, too swagged. |
yeah the popeyes beat was sick
haven't gotten in the ring in quite some time but i see what your saying |
sparky prolly dont even lif

nah but i did take in the impoverished youth and gave them structure, and a vessel for them to release their anger constructively, so they may become better leaders in their community.
