I've only seen about 20 rap acts live so far, and Aesop is definitely near the top of the 'most charismatic' list of ones I've seen. It's because he believes in what he does and knows how to connect with his audiences. He's not an actor who jumps around and postures like a fool. Rather, he connects with his audience, and feeds from their enthusiasm. When I saw him, the love in the air was palpable.

Why are you so cynical? Nevermind that question. I'll assume that he wouldn't do so well in The-middle-of-nowhere, Scotland where apparently the people are physically cold and psychologically hopeless, and probably need to get to bed early so they can go dig ditches in the frozen earth the next day, hoping not to get fired and have to anser to their families about why they chose to have fun the previous night at the expense of tonight's dinner.

I really liked it on first listen. AT the moment the new Wire album is my AOTY but it didn't grow on me on the second listen, I know The Uncluded release will.

I wouldn't say either Aesop Rock nor the guy with the high voice will ever be in danger of being the next David Bowie or the next Mick Jagger.
