that's cute

as for gucci mane... he's one of those artists i remember from living in florida that all the ghetto black people and haitians liked. i'll be honest and say i can vibe to some of his music. i mean he makes decent trap music. i don't care what you internet hipsters say. yea, he's not much of a lyricist or whatever. that's news to nobody. that's not what the music is even made for.

"Warrior" is definitely one of his strongest points. That chorus is insane. I always though Gucci was a good lyricist for what he did. His descriptions and analogies are pretty dope, but only if you can get down with the fact that it will only be regarding women, drugs, money, and other things he regards as objects that he enjoys.

"cant be scared of a dog when you come from monten park
shootin dice and playing cards selling blow all at the park
had it fresh on yo sister but I used to serv ya momma
breaking 50s down to dimes was my job for da summer
and my job for the winter cookin bricks all in da kitchen
junkies dead at the carwash cause i heard dat dey was snitchin
dope jumpin out da gym man it helped me buy my tims
dope fiend willy used to finger **** my rims
smokers didn't know my name so they used to call me black
if ya beat me for a twenty betcha ima call you back
she on da dope mans dick cause im a nigga with a sack
im the hustler of the year and I know that for a fact"

the key line is bolded. I think he has a really good eye for detail on this track.

"I pull up in that Spyder, strapped up like McGyver
Should have brought my Phantom, na, but I'm mad at my driver
He so ****in' turned up, ridin' on auto pilot, smokin' kush and smilin'
He drinkin' while he drivin'
Gucci please excuse me, hu, all my goons got jewelry on 'em
All my niggas booked up, paper they get it on their own
I don't think you know me, homie, I suggest you leave me alone
I got so much jewelry on, that I think I need a clone"

Why does Gucci want a clone? To fuck him while he rocks his jewelry? Probably. But his narrative here is so vivid for that little moment.

"I drop the top like, "**** it"
I'm not in no lil' Cutlass
I pull up in a "What the...**** I don't know was it"
I know it cost my budget
I know the bitches love it"

i just like his sense of humor here. he doesn't even care what he drives anymore so long as it is too much and gets girls lookin

Holy ****! Someone on MB is defending Gucci Mane. I think the Apocalypse is imminent. Not saying you're wrong, dude, just that it's highly irregular.

Surell 04-07-2015 02:14 AM

Haha, this is basically the cross i bear, defending the rappers no one wants to acknowledge as having any talent. A good few members will remember I made my name bones here as Lil Wayne's primary guardian (alongside FaSho, wherever he has gone). But yeah I've pretty much resigned to the fact that I'm a pop bitch at my core and there's nothing i can do about it.

I defend Manowar, Britney Spears, and the Insane Clown Posse, so I feel your pain.

Ninetales 04-07-2015 11:31 AM

I don't think there is anything wrong with HipPop, it's just not something I want to hear regularly. You might be in the wrong place to discuss it though
