hell no, I know Neutral Milk Hotel has obnoxious fans, but the music is absolutely unassailable

Pavement is very danceable, that's true, but who needs to dance to NMH if you can cry your eyes out to it

Eh, I don't know. Back when I was an angsty depressed teen, I quite enjoyed NMH. But nowadays, it doesn't hold much appeal for me. If I want sadsack indie ruminations, I'll throw on Talk Talk's Laughing Stock. I'd definitely never claim that my position is that NMH is bad (overrated maybe) - it's just not music I'm crazy about anymore.

If I actually want to feel sadness and nostalgia, I'll throw on something from Beach House...or Arcade Fire...or Low.
