The Hate for Ska
It is weird. People at my school have intense hate for Ska. They have hardly heard any of the artists I showed them and they say all of Ska sucks really badly. I am currently debating with one of them who is a Rap fan and he makes these rediculous statments that are simply not true just to attempt to bring down Ska.
It got me wondering if anyone in the world has this problem of people around you shunning Ska and not respecting it at all. Edit: Whoops I voted for the wrong thing. I meant to be the majority of people Hate Ska. :banghead: My Bad. |
I'm not sure about the people at my school there is one person that writes off whole genres but other than that I think that not that many people really listens to Ska, besides Sublime
|
Ska is HUGE in Canada, it's cool

So what genre did I "write off" |
I have one group of friends who loves ska and the another group who absolutely hate it and wont even give it a chance! All they will listen to is Less Than Jake, uneducated fooools.
|
It's kind of funny that LTJ appeals to younger people, if you listen to the lyrics it is geared more toward people as old as me
|
yeah I know, its kinda weird, they're a pretty cool band its just my mates will only listen to ska-punk (just) and they wont listen to any early ska like specials and bodysnatchers and moan whenver i put it on! they're against the trumpets.
|
if they are against the trumpets, they are against YOU. DITCH EM'
|
nah whenever i want some serious ska listenin i just hang with my other more chilled ska lovers. hmm maybe i shud hang with them all the time. :)
|
Ska is great, but if you listen to it too much it'll all start sounding the same and drive you crazy.
That's the opinion I and most of my friends hold, anyway. |
Why would anyone hate ska...
|
who knows? Alot of people around me actually like ska. those of them who know what it is, anyways.
p.s.: im listening to "ska saves". ah, good times. |
there arent too many people into music here. when i ask people if they like ska i either get a blank face or a dumb question like, are they new?
|
i know lots of people who like ska. i'll admit that too much of it is not so good, but still why would anyone hate it?
|
I hate ska more than any genre of music ever made.

I don't think so.
I just really hate ska. It actually makes me angry. Like, a lot. It's crappy music. I'm allowed my opinion. So back off. |

Its really easy to see why someone would hate ska, just listen to it. I only like third wave in small doses, it gets annoying. |
Ska's OK, but bad ska is like satan eating your arm, it hurts.
|
I don't get how people hate it. What is it, the horns, the upbeats? I am truly confused on how people hate this genre. :/
|
No real difference in haters and fans.
not true... but I would say it is a pretty 50/50 split around me. |

I think ska is the happiest music out there. How can you hate it?! One of my friends said he wanted to listen to it because he wanted music with "more music". It made me laugh. He seems to love Area7, even thought i find them a little to pop to get into them. But i just don't understand how people can't like it. Trumpets are so cool. If i ws on a desert island i would so have to have SKA music, it's just the kind of thing that is like happy mood=now regardless of how i was before. I dont get how it's hateable!!! Then again, people who like RnB, hip hop and Techno, probably don't understand why i can't stand it. |
ska is a great genre, there is rarely any pure ska nowadays, just punk with trumpets
im a big fan of the specials, used to like ltj but theyve changed too much, erel big fish is good if theres any genres i can only take in small doses its metal/rap edit: ok i guess ill answer the question too, there are too many emos at my school for people to apreciate ska, curse you the used! |

Unfortunately, in my almost 3rd World Country, No one knows of Ska...well a few people do, and the ones that do Like it.
Most of my friends hate it....so in turn - I hate them. Ska = God |
Yeah most of the group I hang out with Like ska, so All's good. Unfortunately I live near an area where 3/4 of the population think a dance beat and some synth is music, and everything else is "Fookin' shi' lads" to quote.
|
''No real differnece in haters and fans. ''
Because my friends usually have the same music taste, so they are a comprimise to the people I have contact with through daily life, without wanting to. |
most of my friends are indifferent towards ska, mostly because they haven't heard much, if any of it. the little that ive heard, however, ive thoroughly enjoyed. i wish ska was more popular, it can be a blast to listen to. im mostly a rock guy, but a good ska band is like nothing else in music (in a good way)

and then realized you like Saves The Day HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA and Ska in small doses rules. |
Hey hey, whats wrong with Saves The Day? Seriously, they're way better then Rufio.
|
Both Saves the Day and Rufio are worth a listen. Some of the best Ska bands never got what the rightfully deserved. Maphescalies (sp?), Catch 22, 10 Minutes Down (we worked with them on Warped). And yes, it is the happiest music out there. Its the best of both worlds to some: rock and jazz... but then there is always the reggae twist. It comes in waves, and the tide is changing I think. ;)

Ska is alright, There are only a few ska bands I listen to though. Alot of my friends listen to it though.
|
Ska live is enjoyable. Ska otherwise causes allergic reactions in my ears. I'll agree its happy and energetic, but, unless it's at a live gig and I'm there more for the atmosphere and the likes, I don't listen to it.
(And both Saves The Day and Rufio are kickass.) |
i hate hate hate hate ska. some kid, the other day, tried to tell me that bob marley was ska. he got a verbal beat down.
|
You should try The Slackers, they are about the best out there right now.
I think you would like them |
