Streetlight Manifesto

Is like the best band ever

thank god that they haven't sold out and i hope that they never will
if you haven't herd of them then i cant be your friend till you listen to them

Muzak 02-01-2008 05:43 PM

Everything Went Numb, one of the best albums ever.
The new one is not as good but still pretty good.

lucylamppost 02-01-2008 05:59 PM

I adore them they are so great live (L) and they put out a very cool music video......do your friends think your a freak because you can sing all the lyrics??????too?

antihero496 02-01-2008 08:17 PM

i love them! my friends did everything went numb at a talent show and ppl got up and started skanking!

jackhammer 02-08-2008 01:20 PM

Are they by-the-numbers heavy ska like Big D And The Kids table? As I think they are derivative pap.

Taylor 02-15-2008 02:12 AM

Streetlight Manifesto is surley a damn good band! I love them. They are one of the very best ska bands I have ever heard. I love Everything Went Numb alot. Its a great album. There cover of Keasbey Nights was also very intriguing because after hearing Catch 22's so much I could pick out all the details and it surley amused me. Hahaha.

The new cd, ahhh, Somewhere In The Between. It was soo good. I love it dearly. I really loved Everything Went Numb, but Id have to hand it to the new album. SITB did top any of Streetlight's previous albums (not including Keasbey Nights).

I wanna see Streetlight Manifesto live!
and
ahahahaha
yeah, I have freaked out friends by knowing all the lyrics. Hahaha. I'm glad I am not the only one!

jackhammer 02-15-2008 01:32 PM

I have just heard a few tracks from their latest album. It's OK and technically good but it seems forced and a little too removed from what I look for in Ska. Nice to see the genre still alive and kicking though.

thats the best part, the album is so far beyond just the Ska style that it sounds so fresh. This album is the reason why I still look for modern ska bands, because it show the genre has the ability to evolve.

Listen to the entire album of Everything Goes Numb, while reading the lyrics (perhaps the most amazing lyrics ever created) because the album is truely amazing in every way. Their second album (Somewhere in the Between) is solid but nowhere near how good as their debut so I suggest waiting before you listen to that one.

I appreciate what you are saying but personally I prefer my Ska and Reggae without bells and whistles. That's what makes it so distinctive to other genres and probably what hampers it's appeal. I know I am being a dinosaur about this definitely. Generally I'm all for diversity and musical evolution, however there are a few things that I hate to see change.

TTNR 03-30-2008 11:40 AM

Read the lyrics from A Better Place Better, A Better Time there sick:P

Speler 03-30-2008 08:01 PM

I personally love Streetlight Manifesto. I don't really like there lyrics though...

I also have to agree that they aren't all that 'ska'y, though genre's do change.

Alfred 04-04-2008 09:09 PM

Streetlight Manifesto, great band. I checked out their stuff recently. My favorite songs would have to be Down, Down, Down to Mephisto's Cafe or Watch It Crash. Watch It Crash has the best horn parts ever.

timefornothing 04-10-2008 09:21 PM

I'm glad I'm not the only person on the internet with an irrational adoration for Streetlight Manifesto. And somewhat on topic, I think that their music is just more proof that ska tends to absorb any genre it touches through osmosis. I can certainly see why ska fans wouldn't necessarily like them, because they don't really share a lot of common ground with pure ska- but I just love it.

MIKE138 04-13-2008 05:12 PM

There a great band, they got me into ska eventhough they arent that "skaish" What do you guys think of the new album?

Speler 04-13-2008 05:21 PM

I love Somewhere In The Between, it feels like Tomas spent a lot more time actually writing the material then on his past releases (which I suppose he did considering the last release before SITB (ignoring Keasbley Nights) was released half a decade previously).

40oztofreedom 04-14-2008 04:25 PM

seeing them live was the greatest experience ever. i've been to a lot of concerts and the energy there was incredible. it was so fun and they sound so good live!

Newo 05-11-2008 01:07 PM

Well considering that I am listeing to them right now for the first time, they sound pretty awesome, and a little like Big D and the Kids Table .

It's a fine point.
But without evolution in ska, then there wouldn't have been a two-tone movement in the 70s or actually, maybe more importantly, no reggae.

NoseClams 05-14-2008 01:54 PM

they are a very good band. i am not a 'ska' guy and i like them a lot. i should take the time to look into some other ska bands, i may end up liking them.

Alfred 05-14-2008 02:12 PM

What's another catchy song by them?

Alfred 05-14-2008 02:19 PM

thanks

Speler 05-19-2008 09:42 PM

I would have to recommend The Receiving End Of It All, The Big Sleep and Forty days they're my favorite of their songs.

Mr.Brightside 06-24-2008 10:28 AM

i personally love we will fall together, day in day out, and what a wicked gang we are

Speler 06-25-2008 10:47 AM

This is quoted from wikipedia and has no references, so it's likely to be inaccurate but:

Quote:

A new, currently untitled album has been confirmed for release on October 28, 2008. It will be a rarities and unreleased compilation, and will contain a mix of both Streetlight Manifesto and Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution songs. Included will be the BOTAR tracks "It All Goes Numb", "One Mississippi", and "Grandpa", and tracks from Streetlight Manifesto including the full-length version of "Down, Down, Down, to Mephisto's Cafe", a studio version of "I'm Better Than You" and some tracks recorded for the abandonded "Keas Beas" project. Also alleged to be on the album are covers of Kalnoky's first band, Gimp's songs, which have been fan favorites and staples of Streetlight's live shows for years. The European version of the release will come packaged with a DVD containing the music videos for "They Provide the Paint for the Picture Perfect Masterpiece That They Will Paint on the Inside of Your Eyelids", "Everything Went Numb", as well as a 28-minute documentary of Kalnoky titled "Shaving the Old Plies: The Tomas Kalnoky Story".

abacacus 07-04-2008 08:57 PM

i love streetlight manifesto. they are the only ska band i really like besides the skatalites. i know there not really ska, but im a metalhead at heart, so the jazzier real ska isn't what i listen to most of the time.

first post by the way. hi.

The_Clumsy_Chord 07-08-2008 06:35 PM

Love Streetlight...Everything Goes Numb is definately in my top 10 of all time favorite albums

LordMadness 07-16-2008 10:43 PM

Great live, and I personally love Somewhere In The Between. I saw them play with Aquabats, and Suburban Legends. Skanked my bum off : D. I like them better then Catch 22 (who they originated from if you didn't know : D)

Yeah but Catch 22 are damn awful so that is not the best recco lol!

Straight Edge 07-27-2008 05:13 PM

They are amazing live. I really like their lyrics, especially on Keasbey Nights.

Muzak 07-27-2008 05:36 PM

if you like Keasbey Nights done by Streetlight, definitely check out the original version by Catch 22. Much better IMO.

MonGuiN 07-27-2008 07:27 PM

Just an FYI Tomas Kalnoky is the lead singer of both Streetlight Manifesto and Catch 22 so Keasby Nights isnt actually a cover.

City of Caterpillar 07-28-2008 06:57 AM

a lot of people are saying that they are the "4th wave of ska" which i don't quite agree with but still a good band

soundofsilver 08-22-2008 03:02 PM

I literally just got Everything Goes Numb and its pretty good. One of my guy friends has pretty good taste in music.
He got me into AFI, Bouncing Souls and Rise Against.

Streetlight Manifesto was on his myspace profile. The Big Sleep, I think. And it sounded awesome, so I bought a CD.

Definately no Rise Against or Bouncing Souls though...but thats my opinion ^^;

Disintegration 10-13-2008 09:15 AM

A Moment Of Silence is one of my favourites for sure.

tetloose 10-21-2008 05:20 AM

skashroomking 02-12-2009 01:28 PM

and i want to slap them

BoopieJones 02-16-2009 12:21 AM

Thank you SLM for making my life 25% better than it already was.

Remedy 03-15-2009 04:07 PM

I saw them for the second time a few weeks ago - they are really good live if you get the chance to see them, too bad the place was so crowded that there wasn't any room for skanking

KingMolf 09-13-2009 09:16 AM

Great musicians, great people, grat songs and the best live i've ever been in athens.simply my favorite ska band
