Some of London Zoo reminds me of stuff on Adrian Sherwood's Becoming a Cliche/Dub Cliche collection of radical dub music. If you like trippy dance music check out The Sound of Future Russia, a collection of music from the underground club scene in the Moscow/St. Petersburg. Fela's music has afro-funk riddims with the heavily stacked drums sound is similar. Asian Dub Foundation has a similar Bombay trip hop sound. The Bug's sample on Poison Dart sounds very close to the Asian Dub Foundation's Riddim I Like. M.I.A.'s frenetic raps resemble the deconstructed primativism the Bug's rappers. The Bug has such an extensive matrix of musical influences it's hard to describe to anyone who hasn't heard them. |
